Whilst my son was at his piano lesson I took a short trip to nearby Victoria bridge on the WCML on what was a glorious summer's evening with lovely lighting. Unfortunately, in the time I was there no freight passed.

In superb evening light, 390044 passes Victoria bridge working the 9S97 17.43 Euston to Glasgow. Sunny summer days more often than not create a very contrasty light with deep shadows and often with a hazy background with evenings like this making a pleasant change hence why I took my camera when I dropped my son to his piano lesson!

390042, VT 16.47 Liverpool Lime Street-London Euston (1A57), Victoria bridge
390042 'City of Bangor/Dinas Bangor' sweeps around a right-hand curve just south of Roade in Northamptonshire working the 16.47 Liverpool Lime Street to Euston 1A57 service. I commented last week on the shabby state of the front end of this particular Pendolino and it is clear to see again in this photograph. This is a bit of a surprise as Virgin tend to make an effort to keep their fleet looking good.

350267 & 350247, LM 17.24 London Euston-Crewe (2U99), Victoria bridge
The superb evening light at Victoria bridge just south of Roade in Northamptonshire makes even a lowly London Midland Desiro look half reasonable! 350267 and 350247 are now six years old having been delivered in 2008 and are seen here working the 2U99 17.24 Euston to Crewe service.

The sun has just dropped a little lower in the sky so as not to quite illuminate the front of 390046 as it passes Victoria bridge just south of Roade. It is working the 17.57 Euston to Lancaster 1C94 Virgin West Coast service.

390124 'Virgin Venturer' takes the down fast line at speed between Roade and Ashton in rural Northamptonshire. The Pendolino is working the 1H01 Virgin 18.00 Euston to Manchester Piccadilly service.

350234 & 350240, LM 18.26 Northampton-London Euston (1Y70), Victoria bridge
With what has been a dry and above-average temperature spring and early summer the wheat fields in the background are already beginning to turn to a more golden colour that may well herald and slightly earlier harvest next month. In the foreground London Midland's 350234 and 350240 work the 18.26 Northampton to Euston service. The delightfully bucolic and typically English scene is just south of Roade in Northamptonshire.
