With me now having submitted my resignation letter I have become a little de-mob happy! I have started to take my camera to work and then to nip out locally for an hour or so when time permits. Normally I would be filling every moment at work with future planning but this is now not necessary of course! Today with some summer sunshine I went to a bridge that I have never actually visited before just near Wellingborough's Finedon Road industrial estate

222103 approaches Wellingborough from the north working the 08.49 Sheffield to St. Pancras EMT service. This spot, despite appearances, is not as rural as it appears. Behind me is the large Finedon Road industrial estate complete with the municipal tip very close by!

222019, EM 09.29 London St. Pancras-Nottingham (1D19), Finedon Road industrial estate SP900702
With Wellingborough's Finedon Road industrial estate in the background, 222019 passes with the 09.20 St. Pancras to Nottingham 1D19 service. Despite it being a hot and clear July day with a brilliant blue sky (that did cloud up a little later on during my visit) photography in these conditions can be tricky. With extremely strong sun and with it being high and overhead deep shadows are created that themselves need some fettling during processing on the computer.

I cannot help but wonder as to how the driver of HST power car 43044 can see to drive the train! With the sunblind almost extended completely to the base of the windscreen, the 09.32 Nottingham to St. Pancras service approaches Wellingborough taken from a footpath that crosses a small bridge near to the Finedon Road industrial estate. This power car was a Western Region unit delivered back in 1976 as part of set 253022.

222018, EM 10.16 Corby-London St. Pancras (1P29), Finedon Road industrial estate SP900702
A bucolic summer scene just north of Wellingborough sees the 10.16 Corby to St. Pancras Meridian service approach the town. 222018 will be slowing down as it approaches because it is stopping at the station some mile and a half or so south of this location. Soon this scene will change forever with the relaying of the second 'slow' line to the right and the installation of masts and wiring if the electrification of the route ever comes to fruition!

222003, EM 09.58 London St. Pancras-Sheffield (1F21), Finedon Road industrial estate SP900702
222003 'Tornado' leaves Wellingborough working the 09.58 St. Pancras to Sheffield 1F21 service. Notice this Meridian's small vinyl 'nameplate' located between the driver's door and the first passenger door of the train. It was turning into a very hot day and with me fully dressed in my work 'uniform' consisting of a suit and tie I was struggling to find a shady spot to stand in between trains!

222021, EM 10.01 London St. Pancras-Corby (1M21), Finedon Road industrial estate SP900702
In a repeat of the previous photograph, 222021 gets away from its stop at Wellingborough station forming the 10.01 St. Pancras to Corby train. Since their introduction as part of the summer timetable launch in May 2004 the Meridians have been the mainstay of services on the Midland Mainline. They have proved to be reliable units but they are, to the enthusiast at least, a little dull!

222001, EM 09.29 Sheffield-London St. Pancras (1C30), Finedon Road industrial estate SP900702
Pioneer Meridian 222001 approaches Wellingborough from the north working the 09.29 Sheffield to St. Pancras East Midlands Railway service. These units were introduced at the start of the summer timetable exactly ten years ago to replace the wholly inadequate Class 170 Turbostar units. They have settled in well and are reliable units but one cannot help but think about what will happen when the line is electrified from 2020 and where they may go next?

43076, EM 10.15 London St. Pancras-Nottingham (1D22), Finedon Road industrial estate SP900702
I think that the EMR livery really suits the HST sets with the company keeping their trains looking smart. Just north of Wellingborough near to the town's Finedon Road industrial estate 43076 leads the 10.15 St. Pancras to Nottingham service. Unfortunately, I did manage to catch the number of the trailing power car.

222013, EM 10.05 Nottingham-London St. Pancras (1B31), Finedon Road industrial estate SP900702
222013 working the 1B31 10.05 Nottingham to St. Pancras 'fast' service approaches Wellingborough at speed. Unfortunately, the angle of the strong summer sun has just moved round such that it not quite illuminating the side of the train at this location.

222017 speeds past Wellingborough's Finedon Road industrial estate working the 10.26 St. Pancras to Sheffield train. This photograph has needed a great deal of work in Photoshop due to the awful and very strong back lighting!

67021, 08.45 London Victoria-Chesterfield VSOE charter (for Chatsworth House) (1E02), Finedon Road industrial estate SP900702
Composed of a rake of former Pullman stock and some painted to resemble the older coaches the 08.45 Victoria to Chesterfield VSOE charter leaves Wellingborough past the town's delightful Finedon Road industrial estate. After a luxurious train journey the passengers, on arrival at Chesterfield, transferred to a fleet of coaches for onward travel to Chatsworth House. The train is led by 67021 which looks a little out of place leading this train in its EWS livery.
