An early evening test train was scheduled to pass near to home with a Network Rail Class 31 in charge. With the use of these veteran locomotives becoming less frequent I was determined to re-schedule dinner to get out and see it!

350237, LM 17.13 Birmingham New Street-London Euston (1Y70), Roade Hill
350237 and another unidentified unit works the 17.13 Birmingham New Street to Euston London Midland service past Roade Hill. Despite the largely blue sky, this picture has been blighted by a cloud spoiling the moment as the train passed! In order to get this image, a ladder is required to elevate the photographer and the camera above the palisade fencing.

390152 heads south working the 14.40 Glasgow to Euston Virgin West Coast service past Roade Hill just south of the village of the same name. It looks as if the Pendolino has been in collision with a hapless bird on its journey south.

390127, VT 17.50 Birmingham New Street-London Euston (1B76), Roade Hill
An image very similar to the previous one. Another eleven car Pendolino passes Roade Hill. This time, 390127 is seen passing under the huge and ridiculously over-engineered signal gantry that carries just two colour lights working the 17.50 Birmingham to Euston Virgin service.

31465, 15.30 Derby-Euston Down Carr Shed (3Z68), Roade Hill
The use of a Class 31 on a test train this far south on the WCML is a bit of a rarity. The was plenty of gen on the forums logging the 15.30 Derby to Euston Down Carr shed's progress with it causing some considerable excitement. 31465 leads the four test vehicles past Roade Hill unfortunately not quite coinciding with some sunshine! 31465 entered service in 1960 as D5637. It became 31213 under TOPS and was based for a time (05.76-05.88) and was photographed by me at that time, for example, see......https://www.ontheupfast.com/p/21936chg/25511221404/x31213-09-15-weymouth-bristol-temple and..... https://www.ontheupfast.com/p/21936chg/27007736604/x31213-12-07-portsmouth-harbour-bristol
