A stunning, but very cold, Saturday morning encouraged me out for a walk that just coincided with three freights passing!

66741, 03.15 Felixstowe North-Trafford Park (4M21, 22E), between Roade & Ashton
66741 'Swanage Railway' leads the 4M21 03.15 Felixstowe North to Trafford Park Freightliner service between Roade and Ashton on the WCML. Despite the sun being well up it was still a bitterly cold morning for mid-April and with a heavy frost still on the ground.

90003 & 90045, 02.57 Felixstowe North-Garston (4M45, 54E), site of Roade station
With it all over now for the Class 86s, 90s have now taken over their former Freightliner duties. The 90s make very easy weather of their work travelling noticeably quicker than Class 66s and surely more efficiently in the process. Passing the site of Roade station former Greater Anglia 90003 leads 90045 on the 02.57 Felixstowe to Trafford Park 4M45 service.

350103 & 350404, LN 07.37 Northampton-London Euston (1N82, 1L), site of Roade station
At any normal time, this 07.37 Northampton to Euston 1N82 service would be packed to the gunwales with commuters heading south. However, COVID has other ideas and now the train, being worked by 350103 and 350404 (a former TPE set), is virtually empty judging by the number of people I observed sitting socially distanced through the train windows as it passed. One wonders if things will ever revert to type with packed commuter trains taking tens of thousands of workers to their office jobs in London?

66593, 03.25 Garston-London Gateway (4L52, 3L), site of Roade station
After completing its long and steady climb from Northampton 66593 '3MG Mersey Multimodal Gateway' bursts into the early morning sunshine at Roade and can now pick up a little speed as it heads south. It is leading the 4L52 03.25 Garston to London Gateway Freightliner service.
