Following overnight engineering works in the Kings Langley area I spotted four returning infrastructure workings due to pass along the WCML near my home in Roade. Notoriously unreliable, I had half expected not all of them to run but they all did! However, I missed the first one as it ran nearly an hour and a half early passing Roade before I had even spotted that it was underway and I wasn't even dressed! However, despite signallers messing with their paths, I did manage to capture the remaining three workings that included a photographic Class 66 cop.

390117, VT 08.05 Wolverhampton-London Euston (1B01, 17L), between Roade & Ashton
390117 'Blue Peter' heads south in the early morning sunshine between the villages of Roade and Ashton in Northamptonshire working the 08.05 Wolverhampton to Euston Avanti service. Notice the small dog out for his walk not appearing to take any notice of the passing train. This particular photograph used the camera's maximum shutter speed of 1/2000 sec. to 'freeze' the action. As the train was running fairly slowing this has worked but if it had been at line speed even this shutter speed would not have kept things sharp. By way of comparison, the next photograph adopts the panning technique, see..... https://www.ontheupfast.com/p/21936chg/30013731725/x2-350117-vt-08-05-manchester-p-london

390118, VT 08.05 Manchester Piccadilly-London Euston (1A02, 9E), between Roade & Ashton
Following on from the previous photograph, see.... https://www.ontheupfast.com/p/21936chg/30013731724/x390117-08-05-wolverhampton-london this very similar image utilises the panning technique to capture the subject relatively sharp with the background deliberately blurred. It is a little hit and miss not always working and in this case, the subject is not quite pin sharp. 390118 heads south between Roade and Ashton working the 1A02 08.05 Manchester to Euston Avanti West Coast train.

350011, VT 08.38 Liverpool Lime Street-London Euston (1A05, 5E), Victoria bridge
With the front of the train just avoiding the full sun 390011 'City of Lichfield' passes Victoria bridge just south of Roade in Northamptonshire working the 08.38 Liverpool to Euston train. Despite the bright sun it was an unseasonally cold day with a very brisk north-easterly wind blowing with it feeling more like January than early April!

66735, 09.13 Kings Langley-Bescot (6G50, 25L), Victoria bridge
If the 09.13 Kings Langley to Bescot engineering train had been on time I would have chosen a different location to capture it but as it was over an hour late I had to make the best of a bad thing with the sun now having come right round. 66735 'Peterborough United' is seen hauling the train composed of a rake of loaded JNA and MLA wagons past Victoria bridge between Roade and Ashton.

66784, 09.42 Kings Langley-Bescot (6G51, 13E), between Roade & Ashton
About fifteen minutes behind the previous infrastructure train, see..... https://www.ontheupfast.com/p/21936chg/30013731729/x66735-09-13-king-s-langley-bescot the 09.42 Kings Langley to Bescot 6G51 passes between Roade and Ashton. Leading a variety of wagons including some JNA and MRA side tipping wagons 66784 'Keighley & Worth Valley Railway 50th Anniversary 1968-2018' is seen. The train had worked on the down slow from Kings Langley as far as Ledburn Junction where it had been put on to the fast line to run as far as Hanslope Junction where it reverted back to the slow again.

66727, 10.18 Kings Langley-Bescot (6G52, 3E), Ashton Road bridge
66727 'Maritime One' leads the third infrastructure working of the morning and is seen about to pass under Ashton Road bridge just south of Roade. The train is composed of a rake of loaded MRA wagons and a number of flats towards the rear. Just visible at the rear is DRS liveried 66304.

66304, 10.18 Kings Langley-Bescot (6G52, 3E), Ashton Road bridge
A bit of 'grab' shot sees me crossing Ashton Road bridge with my step ladder and getting a poorly composed photograph of 66304 dead-in-tow at the rear of the 10.18 6G52 Kings Langley to Bescot engineering train. Notice the recently completed bank stabilisation work dominating the scene somewhat.

390042 is about to sweep under Ashton Road bridge with the village of Roade in the background. It is heading south working the 10.05 Wolverhampton to London Euston 1B08 service.
