I rushed back from work a little early in order to capture the passage of an unusual working passing near to home on the WCML hauled by a DCR Class 56. With the clocks to go forward the following weekend, there was ample light to get the photographs.

Class 221, VT 15.10 London Euston-Chester (1D89), Roade cutting The 15.10 Euston to Chester Voyager service passes through Roade cutting. It is nearly 16.00 but the sun is only lighting the west-facing cutting wall but at least there is sufficient light deeper in the cutting for a reasonable photograph to be taken. Class 221s, VT 14.35 Chester-London Euston (1A43), Roade cutting Just a few minutes after the previous photograph was taken, another pair of Voyagers head south through Roade cutting. Class 390, VT 15.20 London Euston-Manchester Piccadilly (1H33) & 350233, 14.54 London Euston-Northampton (2N19), Roade cutting The race is on in Roade cutting! The Class 390 Pendolino will be winning as it is on the down fast line and heading off on the Weedon loop towards Rugby as the 1H33 15.20 Euston to Manchester Piccadilly. No doubt going considerably slower is London Midland's 350233 forming the 14.54 Euston to Northampton. 86614 & 86612, 11.14 Felixstowe North-Trafford Park (4M87), Roade cutting Freightliner still operates a substantial fleet of AL6 Class 86s but the pressure is on them to be replaced as unreliability is becoming a real problem with a number of them catching fire! I will try to get photographs of them when possible as in this case with the 4M87 11.14 Felixstowe to Trafford Park. Passing through Roade cutting 86614 and 86612 hauls the train making the usual noise that accompanies these vintage locomotives. 350251, LM 15.54 Birmingham New Street-London Euston (2Y14), Roade cutting A pair of London Midland Desiros led by 350251 passes through Roade cutting working the 15.54 Birmingham New Street to London Euston train. Close examination of the secondman's cab window reveals a perfect reflection of the bridge on which I am standing and going in even further using Photoshop reveals me standing taking the photograph over the parapet! 90049, 12.30 Crewe Basford Hall-Felixstowe North (4L90), Roade cutting 90049 leads the 12.30 Crewe Basford Hall to Felixstowe Freightliner service through Roade cutting. I saw a northbound Freightliner a little earlier hauled by an older AL6 Class 86 pairing. The 90s are not as powerful as a pair of 86s but probably a lot more reliable! 56303, 11.40 Chaddesden Sidings-Willesden Euroterminal (6M56), Roade cutting Running late this what I had rushed home from work for! DCRail's (DCR or Devon & Cornwall Railways LtD) 56303 tows a short ballast train through Roade cutting heading to London. The 56 is hauling just five JRA Tiphook wagons of the type that have had their height extended two years ago to accommodate more scrap for which they are ostensibly designed. However, as can be seen here they are also suitable for carrying ballast or stone, in this case as the 6M56 Caddesden to Willesden Euroterminal.
