111. Andy's birthday-10.12.20

Another poor day for weather but it was good to get out and meet Andy, suitably distanced of course, at Victoria bridge to wish him a happy birthday! We were not out very long but did get a little freight action. Prior to meeting Andy, I nipped out to do a little shopping to coincide with the passage of a freight and an unusual Caledonian Sleeper ECS working.

As I was crossing the A508 bridge in Roade on a shopping errand, it just so happened that the 4L97 06.15 Trafford Park to Felixstowe Freightliner was approaching. Just as it came into view some weak sunshine broke through the cloud and I managed a half reasonable photograph.

92010, 05.07 Polmadie-Wembley IC depot (3Z11, 98E), Roade cutting
On my return walk from the shop, I managed to take this rather unusual working. I had been monitoring the progress of 92010 hauling the 3Z11 05.07 Polmadie to Wembley ECS working on RTT and made a move out when it was approaching Long Buckby some one hundred and twenty-three minutes early! However, it was held at Northampton for some time so was a mere one hundred and fourteen minutes ahead of schedule here In Roade cutting! It is very unusual to see the Sleeper stock in the daylight at a time such as this and I am unsure as to why CS ran this train empty all the way from Edinburgh to London. I know that there are COVID related changes to its services and that certain services are being rerouted and that there is industrial action taking place but if anybody could enlighten me please drop me a line using the contact me tab at the bottom of this page.

66520, 09.12 Felixstowe North-Trafford Park (4M63, RT), Victoria bridge
I seem to make a habit of photographing 66520 in awful weather! On a very grey and dull December afternoon, it is seen passing Victoria bridge leading the 4M63 09.12 Felixstowe North to Trafford Park Freightliner. Almost exactly five years previously, I captured it in equally awful weather at Bramley station, see.... https://www.ontheupfast.com/p/21936chg/29360076004/x66520-13-28-eastleigh-yard-hinksey

221143 & 221106, VT 08.54 Edinburgh Waverley-London Euston (9M52, 1E), Victoria bridge
The race to photograph the former Virgin Voyagers on the WCML is now off for the moment as Avanti has paused its programme to replace them with bi-mode units. I am not sure if Avanti has plans to re-livery the units as they are still unbranded and wear Virgin's colours over a year after the operator ceased its operations. 221143 and 221106 work the 9M52 08.54 Edinburgh to Euston on what is surely the most inefficient route on which to operate a pair of thirsty diesel units!

66562, 12.16 Lawley Street-London Gateway (4L46, 2L), Victoria bridge
It's 14.30 in the afternoon and the light has dropped to such a poor level that Andy and I decided this would be the second to last train that we would see before moving off for a coffee at a local country park. 66562 leads the 12.16 Lawley Street to London Gateway Freightliner past Victoria bridge. I photographed this locomotive working the same service but in much better weather back on the second day of the COVID-19 lockdown back in March, see..... https://www.ontheupfast.com/p/21936chg/28936891804/x66562-12-16-lawley-street-london

66617, 13.20 Willesden Yard-Tunstead Sidings (6H50, 18L), Victoria bridge
With the light now so dire the camera's ISO was ramped up to 12800 and this was the last train of our short birthday related trip out! 66617 works the 13.20 Willesden Yard to Tunstead Sidings past Victoria bridge between Roade and Ashton. Whilst most of the wagons were empty I am not sure as to why there were a number still loaded with ballast going back to where they were quarried?
