110. A foggy load of freight-06.12.20

An extremely cold and foggy December day found me out for my walk suitably attired. My walk coincided with some interesting workings on the southern end of the WCML near to home. Unfortunately, I missed a third infrastructure working as it ran insanely early!

66787, 10.23 Watford South Junction-Bescot (6G51, 7L), Victoria bridge
66787 emerges from the gloom at Victoria bridge between Roade and Ashton leading the 6G51 10.23 Watford South to Bescot engineering train. The wagons contained used concrete sleepers and plenty of used ballast all going for recycling.

66773 'Pride of GB Railfreight' dead in tow on the rear of the 10.21 Watford South to Bescot engineering train. Whilst the thick fog hung around all day, just the very slightest of weak sunshine has managed to penetrate it to illuminate the trailing cab end. The last time I saw this Class 66 it was in a somewhat different environment, see...... https://www.ontheupfast.com/p/21936chg/29595734804/x66773-10-35-bletchley-cemex-peak

66086, 10.50 Watford South Junction-Bescot (7R02, 37E), Victoria bridge
66086 wears the EWS livery that it has since it entered service on the UK network twenty-one years ago. It is seen in the December fog passing Victoria bridge just south of Roade leading the 7R02 10.50 Watford South Junction to Bescot engineering train. This, and the previous train, had been involved in trackwork around Watford over the previous night.

153311, 10.30 Etches Park-Wolverton Centre Sidings (5Z53, 10E), Roade cutting
With the fog being so dense getting photographs deep in Roade cutting proved problematic. 153311 approaches journey's end as the 5Z53 10.30 Derby Etches Park to Wolverton. I had been tracking the progress of this train since it left Derby. Having arrived nearly an hour early at Rugby I thought it would simply carry on taking full advantage of the gained time. However, with a booked slot to leave the WCML at Wolverton quite tricky to obtain, it was held at Rugby losing virtually all of its advantage by the time it passed here at Roade.

This is one of the units that was acquired by Network Rail six months after this image was taken to become one of their infrastructure recording trains, see......... https://www.ontheupfast.com/p/21936chg/30020851257/x3-153376-153311-stabled-norwich

66079, 09.06 Dollands Moor-DIRFT (6C24, 13L), Roade cutting
66079 passes through Roade cutting leading the 6C24 Dollands Moor to Daventry bottled water train. With the SuO 4L48 Tesco Express not running at the moment, this freight and its balancing working south are the only regular Sunday freight workings in this area.
