My daily constitutional coincided with the passage of a number of interesting workings all within an hour of each other!

319433, LM 12.38 Northampton TMD-Watford Junction ECS (5F23, 14L), site of Roade station
I very rarely see the London Northwestern operated Class 319 units actually operating service trains. Nearly all of my photographs of them are working empty stock moves including this one, the 12.38 Northampton Kingsheath depot to Watford Junction. 319433 is seen passing the site of Roade station.

37608, 11.29 Leicester LIP-Orient Way CS (0E53, RT), site of Roade station
There had been no postings on the internet as to what the 0E53 Leicester LIP to Orient Way (Waltham Forest) move actually was since I had been monitoring its progress on RTT. So as 'box of chocolates' working (so as to quote Forrest Gump) I did not know what was going to appear around the curve here at the site of Roade's former station. 37608 'Andromeda' looks good in the afternoon sunshine and is one of my least photographed ROG Class 37s.

68013 & 57002, 09.35 Wembley TMD-Crewe Gresty Bridge (0K69, 29E), Hyde Road bridge
There are regular moves between Crewe Gresty Bridge and Wembley every Saturday in both directions. This is so that the Chiltern Railways Class 68s, that are operated on its behalf by DRS, can be serviced and receive their exams. Other locomotives are often dragged as part of these workings but a Class 57 is not particularly common. 68013 collected 57002 'Rail Express' en route at Willesden after the Class 68 had done a rather convoluted move after it set off earlier in the morning that wiped off its fifty-seven minute early departure. The duo is seen passing through Roade from the village's Hyde Road bridge.

Class 221s, 13.03 London Euston-Birmingham New Street (9G22, 4L), Roade cutting
A pair of Avanti West Coast Class 221s pass through Roade cutting working the 13.03 Euston to Birmingham New Street 9G22 service. A few months ago the future of the West Coast Voyagers seemed assured with them moving to another operator with the ordering of a fleet of brand new bi-mode Class 80X units. However, it seems that COVID-19 has struck again with this order now on hold. So the diesel Voyagers may well be seen and heard operating under the wiring for a while longer yet.

56103, 12.32 DB Cargo Fan (Wembley)-Humberstone Road (6Z35, 12L), Roade cutting
I had been watching this working on RTT intrigued as to what it actually was. Postings revealed that it was a long rake of empty wagons heading north and they were not wrong! 56103 leads thirty-five brand new JNA box wagons through Roade cutting with 60046 out of sight on the rear. The train was running as 6Z35 heading to Humberstone Road in Leicester where the train would be split with twenty of the wagons heading to Long Marston later in the day and the remainder staying in Leicester. The pair of locomotives had worked up to Wembley earlier in the morning from Toton via the MML and then crossing to the WCML using the Marston Vale route.

60046, 12.32 DB Cargo Fan (Wembley)-Humberstone Road (6Z35, 12L), Roade cutting
Dead in tow on the rear of the 12.32 DB Cargo vans (Wembley to Humberstone Road) 60046 'William Wilberforce' is dragged through Roade cutting. I am not quite sure why the Class 60 was taken along for the ride behind a rake of brand new imported JNA stone wagons but it certainly made the train a little more interesting!

With imports really beginning to get going again after the slow-down during the COVID crisis it is notable how much longer and more heavily loaded Freightliner workings are that are coming from the ports. The 4M87 09.46 Felixstowe to Basford Hall was extraordinarily long on this Saturday with hardly any empty wagons and it is seen making its way through the sunshine in Roade cutting.
