As has become somewhat of a custom I take a short trip out in New Year's Eve and take a few photographs. This year, I took a short bike ride around Roade to the cutting.

66703, 10.48 Wembley-Long Marston (6Z66), Roade cutting 66703 'Doncaster PSB 1981-2002' rambles through Roade cutting leading an empty line of Freightliner flats. The wagons are being taken to Long Marston as the 6Z66 10.48 from Wembley yard. The reason for their trip was for them to be repaired and overhauled at the increasingly busy and crowded facility just south of Stratford-on-Avon. 66502, 11.24 Felixstowe North-Lawlwy Street (4M94), Roade cutting The 11.24 Felixstowe to Lawley Street Freightliner makes its way through Roade cutting led by 66502 'Basford Hall Centenary 2001'. I like the lighting in this photograph despite it breaking the rules by being strongly side-lit with Photoshop being fully utilised to bring out the detail in the deep shadows. Class 221, VT 11.43 London Euston-Glasgow Central (Cancelled from Preston) (9S65), Roade cutting A Virgin Voyager races through Roade cutting working the 11.43 Euston to Glasgow Central service. Unfortunately, the 9S65 service ran into some sort of trouble described on RTT as 'an unidentified problem' with the train cancelled from Preston. I hope that any revellers heading to Glasgow for New Year celebrations were able to make it by other means! 350260, LM 11.14 Birmingham New Street-London Euston (1Y34), Roade cutting This photograph amply illustrates the size and scale of Roade cutting. 350260 working the 11.14 Birmingham New Street to Euston is dwarfed by the structure as it makes its way south just catching a little bit of afternoon winter sunshine. 350108, LM 11.49 London Euston-Birmingham New Street (1W11), Roade cutting 350108 heads north through Roade cutting working London Midland's 11.49 Euston to Birmingham New Street. It's half-past twelve and already the sun has all but gone from the depths of the cutting but it is just over a week off from the shortest day. With the days now gaining just under a minute of light per day, it won't be long until normal service is resumed and the clocks will be moved forward! 350116, LM 11.33 Birmingham New Street-London Euston (1W12), Roade cutting No doubt carrying revellers heading for the capital for the night's New Year celebrations 350116 passes south through Roade cutting. The Desiro is working London Midland's 1W12 11.33 Birmingham to Euston service. Given the expected numbers travelling to London, I am surprised that an extra set was not attached to this service. 66421, 13.03 Wembley yard-Crewe Gresty Bridge LE, Roade cutting And so we come to my last photograph of 2015! DRS' 66421 passes through Roade cutting as the 13.03 Wembley yard to Crewe Gresty Bridge light engine move. It will be returning to the DRS depot for maintenance and/or stabling. Time to go home, have a cup of tea and get ready to celebrate the end of the year. To all my readers, have a Happy New Year and here's to 2016!
