350113, 350237 & 350115, stabled, Northampton station
On a wet Sunday afternoon, three London Midland Desiros stand stabled at Northampton station awaiting their next duties. In order, 350113, 350237 and 350115 are seen in this utterly dismal scene!

350244, LM 10.54 London Euston-Northampton (2N09), Northampton station
Having just arrived from Euston and terminated at Northampton's platform one, the passengers of 350244 alight. The 10.54 service from London will wait at the platform to be joined by a service from Birmingham and the eight-car train will then work to Euston.

350262 & 350128, being split, Northampton station
A passenger waiting on Northampton station watches the relative simple process of splitting a pair of London Midland units. 350262 and 350128 will go their own separate ways after arriving from London Euston earlier in the morning. With their Dellner couplings being completely automatic the splitting and joining of units is relatively straightforward with nobody having to don their hiviz and go trackside as in days of old!

350249 (to join with 350244), LM 11.19 Birmingham New Street-London Euston, Northampton station
350249 drifts slowly into Northampton station working the 11.19 Birmingham to Euston London Midland service. Just out of sight behind me 350244 is already at the platform waiting for the Birmingham service to arrive. Both will join together and work forward as an eight-car train. My wife and I took this train to Harrow and Wealdstone.

377708, SN 13.22 Watford Junction-Clapham Junction, Harrow & Wealdstone station
A Southern Electrostar arrives at Harrow and Wealdstone station woking the 13.22 Milton Keynes to Clapham Junction service. My wife and I had changed trains here in order to reach our destination, Kensington Olympia.

Willesden Carriage Shed North signal box (LMS, 1953)
Willesden Carriage Shed North signal box is a quite remarkable survivor. It is an LMS Type 11c structure dating from 1953 (even though it was constructed sometime before this) that still bears many of its as-built features including a slate roof and the glazed locker room windows still in place having not been bricked up. The box contains a 42 lever frame that controls entry and exit from the extensive sidings and the depot.

67015, 66119 & 66138, stabled, Wembley yard
Passing Wembley yard on a Southern service affords a better chance of some photographs of what is stabled in and around the yard for two reasons. The first is that the train is travelling a lot slower than a London Midland service as it is about to dive under the mainlines to gain access to the cross London line and secondly, this route takes the train much closer to the depot roads. With some charter stock stabled in the background 67015 is seen brightening the dullness of a wet winter's afternoon along with 66119 and 66138.

A closer photograph of 67015, 66119 and 66138 as they sit stabled in Wembley yard taken from a Southern service to Clapham Junction. It looks as though 66138 has been involved in some recent RHT work judging by its filthy state.

90020, stabled, Wembley Yard
With Wembley stadium in the background 90020 'Collingwood' sits idle in Wembley yard awaiting its next duty. This locomotive is always characterised by its odd white EWS and number graphics that have become increasingly faded over the years.

Tickets, Northampton-Kennsington Olympia (Journey terminated at Shepherd's Bush)
Our tickets for our journey from Northampton to Kensington Olympia. Unfortunately, something went wrong ahead of us in London and the train was terminated at Shepherd's Bush meaning we had to take a 72 bus to Hammersmith.
