After doing the housework I took a short walk around the village stopping on the bridge that spans the WCML at the site of the former station. Continued work on the nearby huge and somewhat controversial housing estate continues apace changing the background of some images considerably.

350377, LM 13.14 Birmingham New Street-London Euston (1Y46), site of Road station
It's already 14.30 and the sun has dropped so it does not manage to illuminate the 13.14 Birmingham New Sreet to Euston as it passes the site of Roade station woked by 350377 working as a single unit. Notice the line of cottages at the top left if the image, these were built for railway when the line through Roade and the cutting just beyond the bridge were being constructed. The navies put up with primitive conditions in encampments with the railway cottages being the preserve of the senior staff overseeing the work.

350117, LM 13.49 London Euston-Birmingham New Street (1W15), site of Roade station
350117 passes Roade working the 13.49 Euston to Birmingham New Street London Midland service. Notice the huge amount of work taking place in the background. The remains of the former Pianoforte factory has been demolished to make way for an extensive new housing estate that will have a pretty major impact on my home village.

390137, VT 14.00 London Euston-Manchester Piccadilly (1H29), site of Roade station
390137 passes Roade on the down fast line with the 1H29 Euston to Manchester Piccadilly service. Despite the pedestrian bridge spanning the entire four lines at this location, opportunities for reasonable photographs is somewhat limited in part due to rampant and extensive lineside vegetation.

Class 3901XX, VT 14.03 London Euston-Birmingham New Street (9G25), site of Roade station
Under a dramatic winter sky, an unidentified Class 390 Pendolino heads north past the site of Roade station forming the 14.03 Euston to Birmingham New Street. Many years ago there was another line to the right of the Class 390 that led to a bay platform behind me. This bay platform and the line was a direct link to the former Stratford-upon-Avon and Midland Junction Railway (SMJR) that crossed the WCML at ninety degrees a short distance south of this location. The short spur never saw much traffic and fell out of regular use early on.

Class 221, VT 14.10 London Euston-Chester 1D68 site of Roade station
It is all but impossible to identify Voyagers passing on the lineside as their numbers are written so low down on the body sides and, unlike their Pendolino cousins, they have no car identifications numbers on their roofs. The 14.10 Euston to Chester Virgin Trains service passes the site of Roade's former station.

66769, 10.46 Felixstowe North-Hams Hall (4M23), site of Roade station
66760 leads the 10.46 Felixstowe to Hams Hall Freightliner service past Roade's new volcano! The huge new pile of crushed concrete marks the remains of the former Pinaoforte factory that has been undergoing complete demolition over the last year or so to make way for a large and new housing estate. This particular Class 66 is just approaching its first birthday, arriving on UK soils last December arriving at Newport docks aboard the oddly named MV Happy Rover.
