I was concerned that work would get in the way of one of the regular Class 37 hauled ROG drags of former GA units; I was wrong! Not only did I manage a quick grab photograph of the up light engine move on the way to work but I also talked my boss into us stopping on the way to a job as the down Kilmarnock drag passed Northampton. In a slightly bemused manner, he observed the passing of the train and even did a video on his phone. He also appreciated the vintage engineering of the Class 37 as it roared past so I educated him in its finer details and commented on the smell of the exhaust gases!

37800, 06.10 Leicester LIP-Ilford EMUD-(0Z, 9E), site of Roade station
I stopped off on the way to work to get a photograph of 37800 'Cassiopeia' as it passes Roade running light engine from its Leicester base to Ilford EMU depot. Rail Operation Group has almost cornered the market when it comes to the logistical movement of stock around the country. Its use of heritage diesels brings interest to our rather humdrum railway and I always make the effort to get out and capture its workings.

37800 & 317886, 11.59 Ilford EMUD-Killmarnock Bonnyton (5Q08, 20E), Mill Lane bridge
Making quite an English Electric row, 37800 'Cassiopeia' accelerates away from Northampton about to pass under Mill Road bridge towing 317886. The former GA unit was being dragged from Ilford to Kilmarnock's Brodie Engineering facility for work to be undertaken. I have never used this spot before and for once I was thankful that the sun was obscured by heavy cloud as this photograph would have been taken straight into it!

66432, 13.51 DIRFT-Purfleet (4L48, 41E), Mill Road bridge
Just as 37800 'Cassiopeia' dragging 317886 had gone out of shot under Northampton's Mill Road bridge behind me, 66432 drifted past on the up slow line with the 4L48 13.51 Daventry to Purfleet 'Tesco' Freightliner. I have never photographed from here before. It is not a pleasant spot down a steep embankment, through some nettles and brambles and having to stand on some steps leaning against the palisade fencing!
