A brief visit to Bradford-on-Avon station where I spent a lot of time as a schoolboy in the town back in the 1970s. This recent visit followed some final work at my late father's house and instructing an estate agent to market it.

150238, GW 13.10 Weymouth-Gloucester (2E24), Bradford-on-Avon station
150238 leaves Bradford-on-Avon station working the 2E24 13.10 Weymouth to Gloucester service. Since I spent my misspent youth on this station collecting numbers in the late 1970s with the tree growth around the station has been the most notable change, apart from the motive power obviously! In a similar view taken in 1977 the scene is far more open, see..... https://www.ontheupfast.com/p/21936chg/23615751604/x50027-bradford-avon-station-paddington

158798, GW 13.23 Portsmouth Harbour-Cardiff Central (1F20), Bradford-on-Avon station
When I was a schoolboy at Bradford-on-Avon's St. Lawrence School comprehensive (or Trinity secondary modern as it was then) see.... http://st-laurence.org/Trinity.html very few pupils used the train to get to and from school. This situation appears to have changed today with the platform engulfed by pupils making their way home. This is even more of a surprise as the station is some distance from the school with a dirty great big hill to be climbed in the morning! In this photograph, 158798 arrives with the 13.23 Portsmouth Harbour to Cardiff Central service. This set carries a one-off all-over vinyl applied four months ago promoting the Springboard Opportunity Group that supports children in North Somerset with additional needs.

In a very similar position to where I was in 1978 taking.... https://www.ontheupfast.com/p/21936chg/25366029004/x37295-37234-sussex-downsman-ii-worcester but nearly forty years later, 150261 arrives at Bradford-on-Avon station working the 12.51 Great Malvern to Weymouth service. This service was about to boarded by many school children from my old school St. Lawrence (or Trinty secondary modern as it was when I left in 1980)

158961 & 150121, GW 14.30 Cardiff Central-Portsmouth Harbour (1F23), Bradford-on-Avon station
Taken from the station footbridge, 158961 and 150121 arrive at the station with the 14.30 Cardiff to Portsmouth Harbour train. Just compare this train and the changes since a very similar photograph was taken in 1979. Then, it was a locomotive-hauled train of some eleven coaches with the station car park in full view rather than being mostly obscured by tree growth, see...... https://www.ontheupfast.com/p/21936chg/27007736804/x47337-15-14-bristol-temple-meads

150121 & 158961, GW 14.30 Cardiff Central-Portsmouth Harbour (1F23), Bradford-on-Avon station
150121 and 158961 pauses at Bradford-on-Avon station working the 14.30 Cardiff Central to Portsmouth Harbour service. I spent hours at this station in my early spotting career being a resident of the town. Indeed, I spent the first five years of my life living in a small terraced house behind the grand stone-built house above the station footbridge.

150926, GW 15.28 Warminster-Great Malvern (2E25), Bradford-on-Avon station
Just catching some late afternoon September sunshine 150926 pauses at Bradford-on-Avon station forming the 15.28 Warminster to Great Malvern train. I chose a portrait format for this image so as to include the lovely line of potted geraniums looked after by the friends of Bradford-on-Avon station team. From what I remember from my spotting days of the 1970s, the station is in much better condition now and certainly enjoys a far more regular service but as for the present motive the power I am not so sure!
