Another stunning day characterised by a brilliant blue sky. In between jobs in the garden, I took a couple of walks to coincide with some interesting workings.

86637 & 86622, 04.57 Trafford Park-Felixstowe North (4L97, 42E), Ashton Road bridge
It is remarkable how quickly the embankments of the railway grow back after clearance. Back in February just after the trees and greenery had been removed I took a photograph at this spot, see.... https://www.ontheupfast.com/p/21936chg/28900947604/x323227-12-37-allerton-depot-wolverton However, some three months later the view is disappearing fast! In their revised livery 86637 and 86622 lead the 04.57 Trafford Park to Felixstowe 4L97 Freightliner as they approach Ashton Road bridge just south of the village of Roade.

221110 & 221102, VT 08.43 London Euston-Preston (9P54, 2E), between Roade & Ashton
A pair of Avanti West Coast Voyagers still in their original Virgin liveries head north between Roade and Ashton a short distance north of Milton Keynes. 221110 'James Cook' and 221102 'John Cabot' work the 08.43 Euston to Preston as another pair of thirsty diesels working under fully energised electric wires throughout their whole journey.

68014, 06.47 Crewe Gresty Bridge-Wembley (0A68, 43E), between Roade & Ashton
Just prior to the passing of 68014 the lady walking her dogs kindly asked if she was okay to walk in front of me seeing that I was ready with the camera to my eye. Gesturing her to continue has added some human interest to an otherwise straightforward image of a light engine. That level of alertness and politeness amongst the general public is not that common and made a pleasant change. The Chiltern Class 68 was working the 06.47 Crewe Gresty Bridge to Wembley presumably a precursor to its return to the company's Wembley depot.

86632 & 86609, 08.25 Crewe Basford Hall-Felixstowe North (4L93, 1L), Victoria bridge
The second up double-headed Freightliner of the day hauled by a pair of AL6 Class 86s. 86632 and 86609 lead the 08.25 Crewe Basford Hall to Felixstowe 4L93 past Victoria bridge. With possibly just a few months left in service, I take every opportunity to photograph their activity prior to replacement by the former Greater Anglia Class 90s that Freightliner has just acquired.

323221, 10.49 Soho LMD-Wolverton centre sidings (5Z23, 1E), Hyde Road bridge
A little off its usual tracks West Midlands Railway's 323221 passes through Roade cutting as the 10.49 Soho depot to Wolverton. There has been a regular procession of these fairly elderly units in and out of the Knorr-Bremse owned and operated works as they are in receipt of upgrading and improvements.
