A lovely late summer Sunday got me out on my bike to nearby Roade cutting. I love photographing at this time of year with the sun slightly lower in the sky combined with the subtle changes to the natural landscape it creates a lovely warm lighting.

DR73948, 12.00 Nuneaton civil engineers-Euston backing out roads, Roade cutting
Looking very smart in its distinctive Colas livery Plasser and Theurer track machine DR73948 passes through Road cutting. It was operating as the 12.00 Nuneaton to Euston and was the first of two such moves in an hour.

66063 & 66085, 12.00 Fenny Stratford-Bescot up engineering sidings (6R06), Roade cutting
With subtle autumn changes to the colour of the foliage that now has enveloped the sides of the cutting at Roade much in evidence 66063 leads a heavily loaded set of MKA and JNA wagons. The wagons a full of old concrete sleepers that are going for recycling at Bescot. The train, running as 6R06, originated at Fenny Stratford and has 66085 on the rear.

66063 is dragged along at the rear of the 6R06 12.00 Fenny Stratford to Bescot engineering train. The wagons are conveying used concrete sleepers from a worksite on the Marston vale line for recycling at Network Rail's vast Bescot infrastructure facility.

350109 & 350259, LM 12.14 Birmingham New Street-London Euston (2Y13), Roade cutting
I really like taking pictures in sunny conditions at this time of year. The light is warmer and less harsh and with the sun lower in the sky gives far better illumination of the subject. Taking in some of this delicious autumn sun are 350109 and 350259 forming the 12.14 Birmingham New Street to Euston seen passing through Roade cutting.

With its coupling cover missing or tucked away exposing the Dellner mechanicals 390006 'Tate Liverpool' rushes through Roade cutting forming the 12.50 Birmingham to Euston Virgin service.

DRS' 66421 leads the Sunday 13.09 Daventry to Purfleet Freightliner service. This 4L48 is a reliable service that is usually on-time a certainty for a lunchtime walk around the village of Roade where this photgraph is taken above the cutting.

DR73930, Lichfield Trent Valley sidings-Hemel Hempsted, Roade cutting
The second Colas track machine move of the day makes its way southwards through Roade cutting. This one is another Plasser & Theurer machine number DR73930 that is a switch crossing tamper. It was making its way south Lichfield Trent Valley to Hemel Hempsted. Notice that this one has a mysterious white roof as opposed to the earlier one with the more conventional black finish, see..... https://www.ontheupfast.com/p/21936chg/29053511604/dr73948-12-00-nuneaton-civil-engineers

Class 221, VT 10.55 Holyhead-London Euston (1A27) & 350115 & 350103, LM 11.37 Crewe-London Euston (1U30), Roade cutting
The race is on but I suspect that I know which train will get to Euston first! To the left a Virgin Voyager races through Roade cutting working the 1A27 10.55 from Holyhead whilst to the right a twin set London Midland Desiro formed by 350115 and 350103 works the 11.37 from Crewe.

350115 & 350103, LM 11.37 Crewe-London Euston (1U30), Roade cutting
At weekends and, in particular on Sundays, London Midland's Crewe to London return services take the Northampton loop rather than shooting around the Weedon line as they do in the week. This has quite an effect on their timings taking an extra twenty minutes to make the journey. 350115 and 350103 climbs through Roade cutting working the 1U30 11.37 Crewe to Euston.

390018, VT 12.35 Manchester Piccadilly-London Euston (1A28), Roade cutting
A deliberate wide view of Roade cutting reveals it in all of its glory! 390018 passes through it heading south forming the 1A28 12.35 Manchester Piccadilly to Euston Virgin service. Notice the heavily clouded sky that makes it all the more surprising that most of the photographs taken in the last hour have been in strong sunshine!
