53. Northern units & 6G53-23.05.20

Another Saturday sees more activity in and out of Wolverton works. Gemini Rail Services (GRS) certainly seems to be taking on a lot of work with Southern, SWT, EMR, Northern and LNER all having various stock in the works at the present time including 800109 that is having its accident damage repaired. I nipped out to see two Northern 323 units leaving and arriving and then, later in the day, to witness the passage of an infrastucture train heading to Ledburn Junction.

323233, 09.48 Wolverton centre sidings-Allerton (4E), between Roade & Ashton
Having been at Wolverton for a short while, 323233 has emerged back into the sunshine and is seen heading back home photographed between Roade and Ashton. It has an internal refresh and now wears Northern's revised external livery that I personally think looks smart. It is running as the 09.48 Wolverton to Allerton depot that I do not have the reporting number for unless anybody can help me out! Unfortunately, I misjudged the length of the unit and it does not quite fit into the gap that I had identified for this photograph!

Just over a year later I saw the same unit very close to this location making a very similar move, see....... https://www.ontheupfast.com/p/21936chg/30018685164/x323233-08-33-allerton-depot-wolverton

323225, 14.47 Allerton Depot-Wolverton Centre Sidings (5Q36, 137E), site of Roade station
I had been monitoring the progress of this unit since it left Allerton depot on Merseyside over an hour early. It had progressively been gaining time and by the time it was approaching its journey's end on the up fast line at Roade it was considerably over two hours early! 313225 was heading to the works for a 'light' overhaul replacing 323233 that had left earlier in the morning. See...... https://www.ontheupfast.com/p/21936chg/29043767004/x323233-09-48-wolverton-centre-sidings. Notice, that according to its destination screen, its last journey (apart from running empty to Allerton depot) was a Manchester Piccadilly to Crewe via Manchester Airport service.

66736, 16.05 Bescot Yard-Ledburn Junction (6G53, 24E), Victoria bridge
Under a dramatic dark sky GBRf's 66736 'Wolverhampton Wanderers' leads the 16.05 Bescot Yard to Ledburn Junction infrastructure train. Running as 6G38 this train is conveying a number of track panels for overnight and Sunday engineering works on the fast lines around the Bletchley area including the continuing work to replace the flyover to the south of the station. Just catching the final rays of sun before the clouds obliterated it, the train is seen passing Victoria Bridge just south of Roade. And, yes, I did get home to my house in the background of this image before it rained!
