Running an incredible ninety minutes early I could easily have missed the weekly 5Z23 move of a unit from Birmingham's Soho depot to Wolverton Works. However, I did miss the return working that ran back within an hour hearing it pass as I was hanging out the washing!

390042 working the 11.08 Euston to Warrington Bank Quay passes the AmcoGiffen work site just south of Roade where they are undertaking embankment stabilisation work. No work has taken place at this location since early April due to the death of one of their workers who was hit by a train. Until the HSE and the various agencies have finished their enquiry the site will remain firmly closed, and quite right too. Behind every incident, there are real people and real lives that puts ours into a new perspective.

350128, LN 11.45 Northampton-London Euston (2N34, RT), Ashton Road bridge
350128 and two classmates are about to pass under Ashton Road bridge just south of Roade with the 11.45 Northampton to Euston 2N34 service. This is a tricky spot to take pictures from as without a ladder the parapet is so high that I can't see over to get a shot. Therefore, I have to use the camera at arms length with the flip-out screen angled down towards me and hope for the best. In this particular instance I got things about right. It's just a shame that the sun was not just a little bit more round to illuminate the body side.

323207, 11.03 Soho LMD-Wolverton Centre sidings (5Z23, 92E), Ashton Road bridge
Running nearly two hours early, 323207 runs under bridge 207 just south of Roade as the 11.03 Soho depot to Wolverton Works. The Class 323 will undergo attention at the works with the driver then taking another unit back to the Midlands later in the afternoon. Unfortunately, despite looking out for it and ready to get back out to photograph it, the unit popped out on to the north release line and was off very quickly and I heard it passing my home at Roade as I was hanging the washing on the line!
