What has now become a pretty regular jaunt out during the strange COVID-19 times is an early morning walk across the fields from home to capture four freights within ten minutes of each other if everything is running as it should! RTT seemed to give me the thumbs up so off I set. Today, two Class 90s, two Class 86s and a couple of Class 66s formed the quartet of workings and I was back home for some tea and toast within fifteen minutes! In the afternoon, I took a walk to get some provisions that happened to necessitate me crossing the railway twice!

90042 & 90016, 21.26 Coatbridge-Felixstowe North (4L81, 6E), site of Roade station
I had to break into a run in order to get this image! I checked my phone as I left home to see where the 4L81 was and was shocked to see that it was only potentially five minutes away and I had a walk of about that! By the time that I arrived at the bridge at the site of Roade's former station, I could hear it exiting the cutting and had little time to compose the image hence the second locomotive partly obscured by the electrification mast! 90042 and 90016 lead the 21.26 Coatbridge to Felixstowe Freightliner in lieu of the more usual Class 86s.

66735, 03.10 Felixstowe North-Trafford Park (4M21, 10E), Ashton Road bridge
66735 'Peterborough United' leads the 03.10 Felixstowe to Trafford Park 4M21 Freightliner past Ashton Roade bridge just south of the village of Roade. It is passing the worksite that has remained closed since the tragic death of a contractor at the beginning of last month. Once the enquiry is completed the site will reopen and work can continue to stabilise the collapsing embankment.

66559, 03.39 Garston-London Gateway (4L52, 25E), Ashton Road bridge
Taken from Ashton Road bridge with my home village of Roade in the background, 66559 leads the 03.39 Garston to London Gateway Freightliner. Notice the cowslips growing on the top of the embankment to the right that have survived the brutal and mechanised clearance earlier in the year in preparations for stabilisation work to take place. At least this process has opened up this view that was previously impossible due to rampant tree growth.

86609 & 86604, 02.50 Felixstowe North-Garston (4M56, 30E), Ashton Road bridge
Veteran AC power in the form of 86609 and 86604 lead the 02.50 Felixstowe to Garston 4M56 Freightliner past the worksite at Ashton Road bridge just south of Roade in Northamptonshire. After a foul day yesterday with relentless rain, this day has dawned a little brighter so maybe I can continue with some of my COVID-19 lockdown jobs?

66735, 14.18 Trafford Park-Felixstowe North (4L18, 4E), Roade cutting
Seen earlier in the day.... https://www.ontheupfast.com/p/21936chg/29000436004/x66735-03-10-felixstowe-north-trafford 66735 'Peterborough United' now returns south again leading the 14.18 Trafford Park to Felixstowe 4L18 Freightliner. The train is seen from Muddy Lane bridge that spans Roade cutting and was taken during my 'extended' COVID-19 walk to buy some provisions at the local garage.

221103, VT 17.10 London Euston-Holyhead (1D91, 2E), site of Roade station
As my readers will know, I am not a fan of the Voyager family of trains be they operated by CrossCountry or Avanti West Coast as seen here. However, in the case of these former Virgin liveried Class 221s, their time is now limited with new bi-mode units having been ordered to replace them. So I make a point of photographing them when I am out as here at the site of Roade station. In superb evening light with a dramatic sky 221103 'Christopher Columbus' works the 1D91 17.10 London Euston to Holyhead service.
