The internet had announced that Grand Central was moving a locomotive from Crewe to Wembley and I was hoping that it would be one of its repainted 90s ready for the introduction of its new services. Unfortunately, it was not a freshly painted black version but a bright red DB locomotive. Never mind, once again I got out to the quiet railway and undertook my appropriately isolated self exercise on another stunning early spring day!

90019, 13.35 Crewe TMD-Wembley yard (0A06, 50E), Roade Hill
I was led to believe that this was to have been one of Grand Central's freshly painted Class 90s returning to Wembley after testing. However, being a red DB version I am not sure this was correct gen! However, 90019 'Multimodal' certainly looks better amongst the early spring greenery than would have one of GC's in black! The light engine left Crewe at 13.35 running to Wembley Yard as 0A06 and is seen from Roade Hill just south of the village of the same name.

66755, 12.05 London Gateway-Hams Hall (4M46, 8E), Victoria bridge
Same working, same locomotive, same location and same scenario! As per Monday, see.... https://www.ontheupfast.com/p/21936chg/28936788404/x66755-12-05-london-gateway-hams the 12.05 London Gateway to Hams Hall 4M46 has been routed on the down fast line to avoid the Northampton loop. The driver nonchalantly leans with his arm out of the window of 66755 'Tony Berkeley OBE RFG Chairman 1997-2018' as it passes Victoria bridge between Rugby and Milton Keynes.

350107, LN 14.24 London Euston-Northampton (2Z33, 4E), Victoria bridge
One of the three-set emergency timetable workings passes Victoria bridge a short distance north of Hanslope Junction. The 14.24 Euston to Northampton 2Z33 London Northwestern service is led by 350107 with two other sets behind it.

350262, 350231 & 350125, LN 15.25 Northampton-London Euston (2Z74, 6E), Victoria bridge
The 15.25 Northampton to Euston 2Z74 London Northwestern train leaves the village of Roade behind in the background formed by 350262, 350231 and 350125. It is clear that LNW's strategy is essentially running a series of return shuttles between London and Northampton formed of what appears to be fixed three-set formations. The same is happening north of Northampton towards Birmingham with no complicated splitting and joining of trains massively simplifying the logistics of the timetable. This should give them something to think about when things return to normal. The company has got itself into a right pickle with its recent full timetable that is, to be frank, too complicated and has been subject to a lot of criticism.
