Following its jaunt yesterday on 'The Cumbrian Mountain Express' 86259 was captured passing north again to take up its stabling point in Rugby's carriage sidings.

350120, LN 12.31 London Euston-Liverpool Lime Street (Cancelled from Liverpool South Parkway) (1Y81, 20L), Ashton Roade bridge
With the weather much brighter than yesterday 350120 passes Ashton Road bridge and the recent embankment clearance forming the 12.31 London Euston to Liverpool Lime Street. Unfortunately, things went awry as the service lost a lot of time later in its journey and it was terminated at Liverpool South Parkway.

350246, LN 12.34 London Euston-Stafford (2Y48, RT), Ashton Roade bridge
350246 and a classmate pass Ashton Road bridge just south of Roade working the 12.34 Euston to Stafford. The embankment behind the train has been completely transformed by the recent clearance still in much evidence. This rather drastic clearance is in connection with stabilisation work that will be taking place over the coming few months that includes a number of overnight and Sunday possessions.

350267, LN 10.12 Liverpool Lime Street-London Euston (1Y58, 13L), Ashton Roade bridge
350267 brings up the rear of the 10.12 Liverpool to Euston service past Ashton Road bridge just south of the village of Roade. Notice the church spire of Hanslope's (as in the WCML junction) Grade 1 listed St. James the Great parish church on the skyline to the extreme right. This fine structure featured in an episode of 'Who Do You Think You Are?' with Patsy Kensit discovering that one of her ancestors was buried in the churchyard after becoming the curate of the church in 1841.

86259, 12.23 London Euston-Rugby carriage sidings LE (0Z89, 13E), Ashton Roade bridge
This photograph was taken completely blind in the sense that I was holding the camera as high as I could over the parapet of Ashton Road bridge with the viewing screen tilted down towards me. In this position, I had no warning that the train was coming as I could not see so I had to make accurate use of Open Train Times on my phone and listening for its imminent passage. Luckily, I got things about right as this view of 86259 'Les Ross/Peter Pan' returning to its weekday stabling point at Rugby proves. It was running as 0Z89, the 12.23 ex London Euston. Notice that the locomotive is still carrying its 'Cumbrian Mountain Express' headboard following on from yesterday's railtour duties.

350237 & 350127, LN 12.12 Stafford-London Euston (1Y60, 14L), Roade cutting
350237 and 350127 climb through Roade cutting heading south working the 12.12 Stafford to Euston service. As it is now the first day of March the sun is sufficiently high in the sky to illuminate the depths of the cutting even though it's nearly 3 o'clock in the afternoon.

390043, VT 12.55 Manchester Piccadilly-London Euston (1A31, RT), Roade cutting
390043 sweeps around the curve off the Weedon loop line to rejoin the Northampton lines at the very northern end of Roade cutting. The 12.55 Manchester to Euston service will then run along the quadruple section of track all the way to the capital. The Northampton lines dive away to the right passing underneath what is colloquially referred to as 'The Birdcage' - constructed in order to support the cutting walls following their partial collapse in 1890.
