390117, VT 07.43 London Euston-Glasgow Central (9S47), Ashton Road bridge
390117 works the first down Anglo Scottish express of the day, the 9S47 07.43 Euston to Glasgow Central. The train is seen in lovely early morning summer sunshine passing Ashton Road bridge just south of Roade.

90039, outward leg of The Cumbrian Mountain Express, 07.10 London Euston-Carnforth (for steam onwards) (1Z86), Ashton Road bridge
I am not a fan of West Coast Railway's rather drab livery as it does not always photograph particularly well. However, with a (sort of!) matching locomotive in the form of 90039 and in the early morning summer sunshine against lush greenery, it looks quite good. A uniform set of their stock heads north past Ashton Road bridge just south of Roade, as the outward leg of The Cumbrian Mountain Express. The charter left Euston at 07.10 running as 1Z86 to Carnforth where passengers enjoyed haulage behind 46115 'Scots Guardsman' over Shap to Carlisle.

350377, LM 07.46 London Euston-Crewe (1U25), Ashton Road bridge
350377 takes the down fast line past Ashton Road bridge working London Midland's 07.46 Euston to Crewe. Whilst photograph in high summer can be tricky due to strong overhead lighting creating deep and dark shadows, at this time in the morning things are different.
