A stunning winter's day got me out for an afternoon walk around the village coinciding with two freights passing. Unfortunately, it would have been three as an infrastructure train just beat me as it was running an eye-watering three hours late and I hadn't spotted it!

350116 & 350127, LN 12.34 London Euston-Stafford (2Y48, 3L), site of Roade station
Catching some lovely afternoon sun 350116 and 350127 pass the site of the former Roade station working the 12.34 Euston to Stafford. The huge new housing development that occupies the former Pianoforte/Simplex factory site is clear in this image.

66770, 13.15 Milton Keynes Central-Bescot (6G51, 8E), site of Roade station
After an overnight possession of the slow lines south of Hanslope Junction an infrastructure working heads back to its base at Bescot as the 6G51 13.15 from Milton Keynes. Behind the flats are a number of HQA (E) eighty-eight tonne auto discharge ballast wagons that were empty, indicating that there will be some fresh ballast at the worksite. The train is seen ambling past the site of the former station at Roade.

350122, LN 13.31 Bletchley carriage sidings-Northampton ecs (5N55, RT), site of Roade station
The village of Roade is the home to two water towers but neither are in use now. The one in this image provided huge amounts of water to the former Pianoforte factory that occupied the site of the new houses. The concrete structure is currently undergoing conversion into a private residence. 66425, 13.09 DIRFT-Ripple Lane (4L48, 54L), site of Roade station
66425 is a regular performer on this Sunday only Freightliner working. The 4L48 leaves Daventry's rail freight terminal at lunchtime, timetabled for 13.09, and stops at Ripple Lane. Later it works on to the new London Gateway terminal in the Thames estuary. As the winter afternoon sun gets low in the sky, it just manages to catch the front of the locomotive as it emerges from Roade cutting at the site of the former station.
