My daily constitutional coincided with three Sunday freight workings - what a coincidence!

66099, 09.06 Dollands Moor-DIRFT (6C24, 4L), Victoria bridge
With the old EWS livery now looking a little faded 66099 leads the 09.06 Dollands Moor to Daventry freight terminal pass Victoria bridge just south of Roade. This daily working brings imported bottled water into the UK via the Channel Tunnel. In recent weeks, the Hbbills 311 sliding door wagons have been supplemented by some containers marshalled at the back of the service and out of sight in this image.

In a burst of winter sunshine 350105 and 350258 pass Victoria bridge just south of Roade in Northamptonshire working the 10.51 Crewe to Euston.

390008, VT 11.13 Manchester Piccadilly-London Euston (1A20, 4E), Victoria bridge
390008 takes the last of the sharp curves on the route it has just taken from Rugby to here at Roade. From here on south to Euston it's a much straighter route and at least four track all the way. The plain liveried Avanti West Coast Pendolino is working the 11.13 Manchester Piccadilly to Euston service.

66737, 13.15 Milton Keynes Central-Bescot (6G51, 6E), Victoria bridge
66737 'Lesia' passes Victoria bridge just south of Roade with the returning 13.15 Milton Keynes to Bescot engineering train that actually started from Bletchley with the 66 running round after initially heading south. 66737 is named 'Lesia' after the wife of GBRf's MD John Smith. Eagle-eyed spotters will notice the extra large 37 in the number. Apparently, the explanation of this is that in the Smith household there is a running joke that Mrs. Smith always claims to be thirty-seven when asked her age. So to maintain this her husband chose one of his locomotives to continue the joke; a nice story if it's true!

66425, 13.09 DIRFT-Ripple Lane (4L48, 28L), Hyde Road bridge
At this time of the year and at this hour of the afternoon, there are very limited opportunities to get decent sunlit images close to my home in Roade. So sometimes one has to embrace the awkwardness imposed on the camera and work with it! Initially, I locked the camera to expose the picture for the background, including some sky in the pre-cropped image. Then back at home, I used Photoshop to cut the chronically underexposed part of the image and create a new layer. I was able to lighten this up sufficiently to create a passable exposure. The lighter background layer needed a little bit of work mainly relating to its colour temperature. After a little more tweaking I then combined the two layers and saved it. The reason for this method is that with digital photography an overexposed initial image is pretty hopeless to work with as it contains virtually no detail whereas an underexposed area does contain lots of data that can be worked with and brought back to life. The image shows 66425 working the 13.09 4L48 Daventry to Ripple Lane service that will later go on to London Gateway.
