59203, 11.35 Merehead Quarry-Wootton Bassett FY, Clink Road Junction
On my way home I stopped off at Clink Road Junction, a favourite spot of mine back in the 1970s. As can be seen from one of my images taken then at .....https://www.ontheupfast.com/v/photos/21936chg/27043797604/x50001-07-50-paignton-london-paddington things have changed considerably. Apart from the loss of the signal box, the rampant vegetation growth has changed the scene so as to make it virtually unrecognisable! It's interesting to see that the railing along the side of the path that used to lead down to the signal box is one thing still extant from 1979. In the rain, 59203 is working hard hauling the 11.35 Merehead to Wootton Bassett loaded ballast train.

43162, GW 11.06 London Paddington-Plymouth (1C79), Westbury station
There is nothing wrong with this image in terms of excessive digital noise, what can be seen is torrential rain! In fact, the rain was so heavy that I had to contend with a going-away shot as I dare not venture outside of the protection afforded by the canopies! 43162 brings up the tail of the 1C79 11.06 Paddington to Plymouth as it gets away from its Westbury stop.

150234, GW 10.42 Gloucester-Weymouth (2O89), Westbury station
In the pouring rain, 150234 arrives at Westbury station working the 10.42 Gloucester to Weymouth service. Up until its demolition during the Easter of 1984, Westbury North signal box was located to the left of the unit where the tarmac is. The roof of its replacement, the Westbury PSB, can just be seen above the railway bridge parapet.

150243, GW 11.10 Weymouth-Bristol Temple Meads (2V90), Westbury station
The rain has eased off now at Westbury station but the light is still pretty ropey considering that it's the second day of flaming June! Sprinter 150243 arrives at the station with the 11.10 Weymouth to Westbury service.

43094, GW 11.33 London Paddington-Exeter St. David`s (1C81) & 158798, GW 11.30 Cardiff Central-Portsmouth Harbour (1F13), Westbury station
After the torrential rain from earlier, it has begun to brighten up a bit at Westbury station. HST power car 43094 brings up the rear of the 11.33 Paddington to Exeter service whilst 158798 has just arrived forming the 11.30 Cardiff Central to Portsmouth Harbour train. Note that both trains left within three minutes of each other and that they both arrive at Westbury together with the former having covered ninety-five miles but the latter a mere sixty-five.
