A pre-Christmas trip to my mum and her partner's house found my wife and I travelling down to Frome on the train. It was a historic trip in one way as we took our last trip with Virgin Trains travelling back three days later with the new WCML operator, Avanti West Coast. It's early days for the new operator that, in some ways, has a tough act to follow, but initial impressions were not encouraging.
