A lovely autumn Sunday afternoon got me out for a walk that included a stop at my local Victoria bridge between Ashton and Roade on the southern WCML.

The autumn sun illuminates the side of 350103 and 350372 as it passes Victoria bridge just south of Roade forming the 13.14 Birmingham New Street to Euston. Notice the concrete water tower on the skyline to the top left of the image. In recent months, this has begun a much-awaited conversion into a domestic property, one that has caught the attention of Grand Design's Kevin McCloud who has made a number of visits to observe the work taking place.

350263 and consecutively numbered 350264 form the 13.32 Euston to Birmingham New Street past Victoria bridge between Roade and Ashton. Despite the majority of the foreground in deep shade, I like the dappled effect of the sun on the side of the train and the colours of the background creating a very autumnal scene.

390115 'Crewe-All Change' rounds the curve just south of Roade and is about to pass under Victoria bridge. The sun is just managing to catch the top of some of the carriages with it getting lower in the sky day by day, this being the first afternoon after changing the clocks from British summertime. Notice the name Alison applied to the front of the Pendolino. This was applied at the same time as the train was named at Crewe station on June 8th to the memory of former station staff member Alison Austin who lost her battle with cancer last year.

London Northwestern's 350234 and 350257 work the 13.17 Birmingham New Street to London Euston past Victoria bridge just south of Roade between Northampton and Milton Keynes. If the rumours are true, the 3502XX sub-class will be coming off-lease soon and either going to warm store or to another operator, possibly Northern.

390118, VT 13.54 Birmingham New Street-London Euston (1W64, RT), Roade Hill
I have made a number of visits to this location just south of Roade in Northamptonshire to capture trains passing with the field's resident alpacas in view. This is the first time that I have managed it albeit with only two grazing in the autumn sunshine. The main flock were tantalisingly close just out of shot to the left, complete with a cria (a young one) wearing a natty tartan body warmer! The two alpacas are totally unphased by the passing of 390118 working the 13.54 Birmingham New Street to Euston service.
