Having completed my chores for the day and as the sun had come out after some rain I took a walk to Roade cutting. The hour I spent coincided with the passage of four freights through the cutting.

66512, 09.32 Felixstowe North-Ditton (4M88), Roade cutting
 Freight one....
66512 leads the 4M88 09.32 Felixstowe to Ditton through Roade cutting. I had been tracking the progress of this freight on Open Train Times but was I was also watching 4L96 coming the other way and looked increasingly likely they were going to cross in the cutting. Indeed, coming the other way at the time I pressed the shutter, 4L96 was coming into view behind me..... https://www.ontheupfast.com/v/photos/21936chg/27910630804/x0002-66596-0012-0012-lawley-street

66596, 12.12 Lawley Street-London Gateway (4L96), Roade cutting
 Freight two....
As the 4M88 freight disappears from view in Roade cutting, 66596 leads the 12.12 Lawley Street to London Gateway Freightliner in the other direction. If 66596 had not been leading the up Freightliner so slowly, that I would estimate at about forty mph, then the two trains would have passed to the south or even level with me. Notice the unsightly rust stains from the windscreen surrounds. This problem seems to be one that problem afflicts class 66s.

66154, 14.53 DIRFT-Dollands Moor (6O67), Roade cutting
 Freight three....
As usual, I could hear the 6O67 14.53 Daventry rail freight terminal to Dollands Moor empty water bottle train sometime before it came into view. It is a noisy train due to the empty cargo wagons resonating, indeed living where I do across a field from the WCML I also notice when this train is passing as it sounds so different to everything else. 66154 is leading the train and looks a little tatty still wearing it EWD livery complete with three beasties vinyl on the cab side.

66770, 11.55 London Gateway-Hams Hall (4M46), Roade cutting
 Freight Four....
66770 leads the long and heavily loaded 11.55 London Gateway to Hams Hall Freightliner through Roade cutting. Notice the odd different shade of yellow applied to a section of the cab front. I have no idea why this has been applied; if anybody can advise I would be interested to know.

350119 & 350104, LN unidentified down working, Roade cutting
I noticed on RTT that all London Northwestern services were carrying strange headcodes such as 2Z51. I could not work out why but then realised that all was not well with local services. In fact, there were no trains running on the up and down slow lines out of London due to, what I discovered later to be, a massive signalling failure at Euston. This also affected Virgin services causing many cancellations and hours of delays. 350119 and 350104 forms and empty coaching stock working from somewhere south that would then work a scratch service for beleaguered passengers waiting at Northampton.
