A superb autumn morning tempted me out to see the Highland sleeper, I keep saying it, but will THIS be the last time I'll see the Mk. III stock?

90046, CS 19.50 Fort William, 21.43 Aberdeen, 20.45 Inverness-London Euston (1M16, 1E), Milton crossing
With the sun just high enough up to illuminate the train, 90046 leads the Highland sleeper past Milton Crossing on the Weedon loop just north of Roade. The 19.50 Fort William/21.43 Aberdeen and 21.45 Inverness to Euston service is STILL composed of Mk. IIIs, now the best part of ten months after it should have been replaced by the CAF Mk. V stock. With various problems still plaguing the Lowland sleeper, that moved over to the new stock in May, there is still no date given as to when time will be called on this veteran 1980s stock

390044, VT 06.20 London Euston-Birmingham New Street (9G02, 2L), Milton crossing
A classic glint-shot at Milton crossing at 06.50 on a glorious September morning. The sun's early morning rays just catch the side of 390044 as it works the 06.20 Euston to Birmingham New Street.
