With all the packing done for our holiday to Russia I was sent from the house for an hour to get out from under my wife’s feet. I rode my bike to Roade cutting for an hour. Unfortunately, there was no freight in that time but a parade of Voyagers.

Class 221, VT 10.10 London Euston-Chester (1D84, RT), Roade cutting
According to the latest news from Rail and the wider railway press, the days of running diesels under the wires could at last be coming to an end. This is a crazy practice that does nothing for the efficiency of the modern railway and one that we should be keen to see the back of. Here, one of Virgin’s class 221 Voyagers passes Roade cutting with the 10.10 London Euston to Chester. This type of service should soon be operated by a bi-mode unit if the new operator sticks to its promises.

Class 221s, VT 05.49 Glasgow Central-London Euston (9M48, RT), Roade cutting
No less than two class 221s pass through Roade cutting working the 05.49 Glasgow Central to Euston service. This, rather unusually, has the headcode of 9M48, one would expect to find that assigned to a freight working rather than that of an passenger express but Virgin has been assigned a class 9 for its Anglo-Scottish services that go via Birmingham since October 2018.

350261, LN 09.54 London Euston-Northampton (2N09, RT) & 390117, VT 10.20 London Euston-Manchester Piccadilly (1H18, 7L), Roade cutting
As 350261 passes through Roade cutting with the 09.54 Euston to Northampton it is approaching the end of what will be its seventy mile journey from the capital. Meanwhile, 390117 ‘Blue Peter’ is approximately forty minutes into its journey, the 10.20 to Manchester Piccadilly. Things were running well on this day as both trains arrived ‘right time’ at their destinations.

350263, LN 08.05 Liverpool Lime Street-London Euston (9Y04, RT), Roade cutting
It’s not often that the train is in the sun and the background is in shade, normally things conspire to make it the other way around! 350263 passes through Roade cutting forming the 08.05 Liverpool Lime Street to Euston 9Y04 service. This is one of the newly introduced Liverpool direct services that came into operation from the new May timetable.

390020, VT 10.36 London Euston-Blackpool North (1P93, 14L), Roade cutting
Since the introduction of the direct Blackpool service I have managed to take very few pictures of them. 390020, formally ‘Virgin Cavalier’, passes through Roade cutting with the 10.36 Euston to Blackpool North. In my hour of photography in Roade cutting on this morning, this was the only train that was delayed with problems occurring in the Preston area.
