A typically grey and gloomy New Year's Day found us out for our traditional trip on the Northampton and Lamport Railway. Having parked the Jaguar on Merry Tom Lane we walked along to the station and enjoyed a bit of haulage behind 47205.

Whilst my wife and son walk along the path next to the line, 47205 leaves Pitsford station with the 11.00 return working. Unfortunately, they were not able to offer a steam loco. for their first trains of 2015. I was able to appreciate the former Freightliner locomotive hauling the trains but I am not sure that the 'normals' visiting the line for a day out were quite so enthusiastic.

Tickets, sherry & mince pies
The New Year's Day sherry and mince pie trains run up and down the line from Pitsford and Brampton station. Passengers can stay on the train for multiple trips but will only be served with one glass of sherry in a plastic cup and shop bought mince pie! I do think that the railway could make a little more of the tickets, these hand-cut paper affairs are not what visitors to a heritage railway should come to expect.

Having alighted from our train, the 12.00 Pitsford and Brampton return working, the 13.00 makes ready to leave with 47205 leading. To the left of the train is the former Little Bowden signal box that is now rebuilt and renamed Pitsford and Brampton.

47205 waits at the head of the 13.00 Pitsford and Brampton return working to leave Pitsford station with one of New Year's Day mince pie specials. 47205 emerged from Crewe works and into traffic on 24.07.65 and survived in traffic until withdrawal on 31.12.04 and after purchase from C. F. Booths it was transported to the Northampton and Lamport Railway in December 2007.
