DP1, on-display, Science Museum
Unfortunately, a bit of motion blur has spoilt this picture taken inside the Science Museum in Kensington. It shows the prototype Deltic DP1 resplendent in its as-built fluorescent blue livery with speed whiskers. It was constructed in 1955 by English Electric at the Dick, Kerr & Co Works in Preston. Initially, it saw use on the WCML but latterly on the ECML. It was these trials that eventually led to the order for the twenty-two production Deltics. DP1 was retired in early 1961 when it was donated to the Science Museum, then passing to NRM at York and then Shildon.
