41. Trip to London-19.05.19

A Sunday trip to London with my lovely wife in order to see the unlikely combination of Sting and Shaggy in concert. The concert was at The Roundhouse venue in Camden. The Roundhouse, as the name suggests, was a former railway structure built by the London and Birmingham Railway in 1846 but was only in use for ten years as locomotives became too big for it! Standing inside the venue, many original features still exist, and it was a strange feeling to be inside such a building watching two artists in concert!

66425, 13.09 DIRFT-Ripple Lane (4L48), Northampton station
Whilst waiting at Northampton station for our train to Euston and sipping a cappuccino, the up starter went green. 66425 soon appeared leading the SO 13.09 Daventry (DIRFT) to, on this particular day, Ripple Lane Freightliner. This 4L48 can end up at a number of places depending on the customer's particular needs.

350259, LN 12.54 Birmingham New Street-London Euston (1W60, 6L), Northampton station
Our train south to London Euston arrives at Northampton station. It is formed, as usual of two class 350ss with 350259 leading. This was the first day of the new national timetable and in a totally retrograde step, this service had been re-timed to now take an extra twenty minutes to complete its journey with the same stopping pattern.

66549, down stabled Freightliner, Wembley yard
66549 sits at the head of an unidentified Freightliner in Wembley Yard. Close examination of the photograph reveals that there is no driver in the cab perhaps indicating that it is stabled for some time. There were no scheduled down Freightliner workings until the early hours of the next morning.

350129, LN 22.31 London Euston-Northampton (2N77, 1E), London Euston station
350129 waits at London Euston with our train home, the 22.31 to Northampton. We left the concert at The Roundhouse a little early just as the finale was beginning in order to get this train. If we had waited until the end, we would have had to get the last train to Northampton getting back at a very anti-social 00.50!

Tickets, Northampton-London Euston-Northampton
Our super off-peak return tickets from Northampton to Euston; not bad value. As can be seen from the clipping, the outward tickets were checked but on the return, there was no inspection for the entire journey including at the start and finish stations.
