In between Sunday jobs, I nipped out to see and unusual out and back move. Some wagons were collected from Willesden DC Rail Sidings by a pair of UKRL class 56s. First, they worked down from their Leicester base and a couple of hours later they worked back towards Derby.

350255 & 350252, LN 11.14 Birmingham New Street-London Euston (2Y16, 2L), Victoria bridge Yet another photograph illustrating the infuriating nature of our hobby! 350252 at the back of the 11.14 Birmingham New Street to Euston is bathed in spring sunshine but, 350255 leading is in shade with a cloud masking the sun. At least the oilseed rape in the field adjacent to the line at Victoria bridge, just south of Roade, brightens things up a bit! 390107, VT 14.57 London Euston-Manchester Piccadilly (1H16, RT), Victoria bridge In lovely late-spring sunshine, 390107 passes Victoria bridge between Roade and Ashton on the southern WCML forming the 14.57 Euston to Manchester Piccadilly. This was the first of the Pendolinos to receive Virgin's revised 'flowing silk' livery but it will not carry it for much longer as Virgin have not been awarded the WCML franchise again from November with a new operator (as yet, unnamed) taking over putting their new stamp and identity on the Pendolinos and Voyagers. 56091 & 56103, 11.08 Leicester LIP-Willesden DC Rail Sidings (0Z56), Victoria bridge Looking very smart in their DC Rail Freight liveries, 56091 and 56103 head south down the WCML just south of Roade in Northamptonshire. The two vintage class 56s were heading south having left Leicester to collect some wagons from Willesden returning them to Chaddesdon just north of Derby. This 0Z56 light engine movement was running early and if I had not been tracking its progress on Open Train Times then I would have pretty comprehensively missed it! 56103 & 56091, 14.35 Willesden DC Rail Sidings-Chaddesden Sidings (6Z56), Victoria bridge Having worked up to Willesden earlier in the day, 56103 and 56091 return with their rather light load of nine empty wagons. The vintage DCR operated class 56s would hardly be tested too hard working this, the 14.35 Willesden DC sidings to Chaddesden (Derby) move.
