We travelled up from Northampton to Birmingham on Saturday morning. Unfortunately, things were not going well for London Midland with considerable delays and consequential over-crowding.

350249 & 350253, stabled, Northampton station At a drab and cold Northampton station, 350249 and 350253 sit stabled in the down facing bay platforms. After years of being used as parcel platforms and then falling out of use, these two platforms were resurrected about ten years ago. Keywords: 350249 350253, stabled, Northampton station
350125 & 350247, LM 08.54 Birmingham New Street-London Euston (2Y60), Northampton station 350125 and 350247 wait at Northampton's platform one with the 08.54 Birmingham New Street to Euston. This is our usual train to London when we have one of our days away, but not today as we are heading north to Birmingham. 350104, LM 09.13 London Euston-Birmingham New Street (1Y15), Northampton station The perfect train storm is brewing here at Northampton. Not only was the 09.13 from Euston to Birmingham New Street late, but it was also a four car formation rather than the usual eight, the previous northbound train had also been cancelled and look at the crowds on the platform! We just squeezed into the train, but were advised, if we could, to alight at the next station, Long Buckby, to get on a less crowded following train. 350266, LM 10.25 Northampton-Birmingham New Street (2Y11), Long Buckby station Following the advice of the guard on the previous train that we just managed to get on to at Northampton, we alighted at Long Buckby to join the following service that should be less crowded. Along with some other passengers, we heeded his advice and it paid off with us being able to get a seat on 350266 that is seen arriving at Long Buckby station with the 10.25 Northampton to Birmingham New Street.
