In between doing the chores at home, I had a walk out for an hour on what was blustery and bright early spring day. The main purpose was to see a class 67 hauled Burton Ot Wetmore to Wembley ECS move.

350256 is seen about to pass under Hyde Road bridge in Roade with the 1U26 10.02 Crewe to London Euston service. It was a windy morning with some hefty showers but in between the sun was out and pleasantly warm.

67006, 09.35 Burton Ot Wetmore-Wembley yard ECS, Hyde Road bridge
67006 'Royal Sovereign' leads a lovely set of Mk.II stock though Roade cutting spoilt only by the generator coach at the front. It was hauling the 09.35 Burton Ot Wetmore to Wembley yard ECS move. This stock was being taken south in connection with its use the next day on the The Somerset Strimmer railtour from Victoria to the East Somerset Railway.

66537, 09.58 Basford Hall-Felixstowe North (4L79) & 390138, VT 10.47 Liverpool Lime Street-London Euston (1A25, 1L), A508 road bridge, Roade
66537 brings the 09.58 Crewe Basford Hall to Felixstowe Freightliner through Roade Cutting about to pass under the A508 road bridge in the village. This was a very lightly loaded train with just the five boxes seen here, the rest was just a procession of empty flats. Having heard an item on the radio in the week from the Felixstowe terminal this situation is a refection of our current trading situation. The vast vessels arriving and the trains leaving the terminal are packed with full boxes of goods. Meanwhile, many of the trains arriving are lightly loaded or even carrying empty boxes to then be taken away on the vessels. This is a situation that the chancellor will not be at all happy about and one that BREXIT will or will not change for the better depending on your dogma! The train is about to be overtaken by 390138 'City of London' working the 10.47 Liverpool Lime Street to Euston service.

Class 221, VT 11.50 Birmingham New Street-London Euston (1B40, 1E), Roade Cutting
The 11.50 Birmingham New Street to Euston passes through Roade cutting formed by an unidentified class 221 Voyager. I nearly got the number of this unit by spotting and reading the nameplate, unfortunately, it was moving just to quickly for me!

DR73116 & DR77906, 06.25 Parkeston-Watford London Concrete, Roade Cutting
Two track machines, DR73116 and DR77906 pass through Roade cutting at a rather sedate speed. They are in the final stage of their rather convoluted journey that started out early from Parkeston near Harwich. They then travelled via Ipswich, Cambridge, Peterborough, Leicester, Nuneaton and then down the WCML to Watford.
