An Electrostar was being dragged from Wembley to Derby works for overhaul. Hauled by a class 37, this event was worthy of a walk out from home on an autumn Sunday afternoon.

Class 390, VT 13.35 Manchester Piccadilly-London Euston (1A36) & 390016, VT 14.37 London Euston-Manchester Piccadilly (1H69), site of Roade station 
 Two class 390s pass each other at Roade in Northamptonshire. To the left and unidentified Pendolino heads south with the 13.35 Manchester Piccadilly to Euston. To the right, 390016 is working the 14.37 Euston to Manchester. The area of cleared land in the foreground, resembling an urban desert, is the site of the former Pianoforte factory site that is being prepared for hundreds of houses to be built on it. Meanwhile, one of Roade's two now redundant water towers stands on the skyline to the left.

66004, 12.25 Wembley-Bescot, site of Roade station 
 66004 leads the 12.25 Wembley Yard to Bescot engineering train past the site of Roade station and the flattened and cleared Pianoforte site. This is a temporary photographic opportunity as this flattened area of land will soon be filled with a sprawling estate of modern houses with no associated services.

66167, 12.25 Wembley-Bescot, site of Roade station 
 66167 is seen on the rear of the 12.25 Wembley to Bescot engineers' train. The autumn colours are still evident in the trees behind that are still clinging on to their leaves despite it being early November. The houses in the background are just some of the new ones inflicted on the village of Roade with many more still to come on the cleared land in the foreground.

Class 390, VT 14.30 Birmingham New Street-London Euston (1B37), site of Roade station 
 A class 390 heads south past the site of Roade station with the 14.30 Birmingham New Street to London Euston. The are of land to the left of this image was once occupied by a number of sidings that served the Pianoforte factory that was just out of shot. In contemporary published photographs, the are was packed with hundreds of wagons of various shapes and sizes

37884 & 375906, 14.13 Wembley-Derby Litchurch Lane ECS drag, site of Roade station 
 Rail Operations Group's 37884 leads a Southeastern Electrostar 375906 from Wembley yard to Derby Litchurch Lane for refurbishment. The entire fleet are being so treated with the programme commencing last year in 2015. They are emerging from the Bombardier plant in Derby in their new dark blue livery. The train is seen passing the site of Roade station on the down fast.
