A trip to London with my lovely wife as a joint Valentine day. We visited the excellent Churchill war rooms museum under Whitehall. It was a stunning day with the weather feeling more like April than mid February! After some retail therapy we visited our favourite Greek restaurant for a lovely meal followed by a snooze home on the train!

350114, LM 08.33 Birmingham New Street-London Euston (1W06, 2L), Northampton station
On arrival at Northampton, the 08.33 Birmingham New Street to Euston has a dwell time of over twenty minutes! During this time, staff attend to its needs by clearing the rubbish and filling the tanks. This must be frustrating for passenger travelling through from the north. Here, the Not to Moved sign hangs from the driver's window of 350114 as staff prepare it for its onward journey.

Our train to London from Northampton, the 08.33 ex Birmingham New Street stands at platform one. The driver is seen making his way down to the cab of 350114. It will leave in about fifteen minutes once the servicing has taken place and after the Not to be Moved sign has been removed.

37601 & 66124, stabled, Wembley yard
Passing Wembley yard in glorious sun sees 37601'Perseus' stabled with 66124 behind. The ROG operated class 37 looks very smart in its livery that keeps these evergreen veterans of the network looking good.

37611 & D3671, stabled, Willesden depot
On passing Willesden depot, another of ROG's class 37s is seen. Stabled close to the line 37611'Pegasus' is seen with the resident depot pilot D3671 behind. As can be seen, it is a glorious February day more akin to April with wall-to-wall sun and temperatures way into double figures.

350113, LN 19.49 London Euston-Birmingham New Street (1Y79, 4L), London Euston station
Our train home from London to Northampton is seen waiting at Euston's platform six. 350113 will work the 19.49 to Birmingham New Street. Surprisingly, the train was not packed as it usually is. However, the toilets were out of use with an appalling stench emanating from around one of them that permeated throughout one of the coaches. Needless to say, we chose a pair of seats as far as possible from the toilet concerned.

Nameplate (vinyl), 390014, VT 19.30 London Euston-Glasgow Central (1S06, 66L), London Euston-station
When the Pendolinos have been having their mid-life refurbishments the original cast nameplates have been removed and replaced by these offerings! Vinyl 'nameplates' are not really in the best traditions of our enviable railway heritage but I suppose cost and expediency rule the day! 390014 'City of Preston' is about to leave Euston with the 19.30 to Glasgow Central. Unfortunately, something went very wrong in the Crewe area with this service arriving over an hour late into Glasgow with passengers grabbing their delay-repay claim forms as they trudged wearily down platform one no doubt!
