This trip out was one of those ones that totally wastes our time! You know, when control have their hand in things that conspire so that you miss whatever you went out for! I ventured out on a pretty grey summer's morning to see the Retro Canterbury Belle railtour approach Northampton from the north as I was in work for a few hours. Unfortunately, it ended up going via the Weedon loop thus missing out Northampton completely. A couple of light engine 68s sort of made up for it before I headed back to work.

68019 & 68009, 06.50 Crewe Gresty Bridge-Wembley LEs, Mill Lane bridge, Northampton
68019 'Brutus' and 68009 'Titan' approach Northampton from the north as the 06.50 Gresty Bridge to Wembley light engine move. They are about to pass under Mill Lane bridge that carries the road that links the Kingsthorpe and Dallington parts of the town together. This section of track was once firmly quadruple as just beyond the shot is where the much missed Market Harborough link line left the deviation also being where Northampton No.5 signal box was located. Many rue the day that this line closed as today it would prove to be very useful indeed.

350370, LM 08.33 Birmingham New Street-London Euston (1W06), Mill Lane bridge, Northampton
The 1W06 08.33 Birmingham New Street to London Euston service approaches Northampton from the north formed of 350370 and a classmate. The train is about to go under Mill Lane bridge, a busy road and a bridge that requires some extra height to get a shot if you are vertically challenged like myself!
