66124, 08.58 Halewood-Southampton Eastern Docks (6M44), Kensington Olympia station
Whilst waiting for our train home at Kensington Olympia station 66124 led the 08.58 Halewood to Southampton Eastern Docks car transporter through the station. The covered cartics are full of JLR cars for export, mainly to the Far East.

378209, LO 14.01 Clapham Junction-Willesden Junction (2Y26), Kensington Olympia station
378209 arrives at Kensington Olympia station. It is working the ridiculously short 14.01 Clapham Junction to Willesden Junction 2Y26 service, a total distance of six miles and seventeen chains!

378209, LO 14.01 Clapham Junction-Willesden Junction (2Y26) & 378220, LO 14.02 Willesden Junction-Clapham Junction (2Y43), Kensington Olympia station
The frequency of services through Kensington Olympia station is pretty high. A train comes and goes in both direction in rapid secession. Several operators use the station at various times the main one being London Overground as show here. 378209 passes 378220 working alternation Clapham Junction to Willesden Junction shuttles.

377708, SN 14.05 Clapham Junction-Watford Junction (2M41), Kensington Olympia station
Our first train home was this Southern service, the 14.05 Clapham Junction to Watford Junction. We took this train, formed by 377708, from here at Kensington Olympia to Watford Junction. We would normally go direct to Milton Keynes, but on Sundays these services only go as far as Watford.

92023 & D3571 (09007), stabled, Willesden TMC
On passing Willesden depot at relatively slow speed I was able to capture one of Caledonian Sleeper's newly painted class 92s stabled. 92023 looks good in its midnight blue paintwork contrasting to D3571 (ex. 09007) in a one-off green livery.

Willesden Carriage Shed North signal box (LMS, 1953)
As we were on a slower than usual Southern service we passed through Wembley Yard at a fraction of the speed that we usually do on a London Midland train. This gave an opportunity to photograph a remarkable survivor, Willesden Carriage Shed North signal box. It controls the north end of the extensive yard and was opened by British Railways to an LMS design in 1953. Amazingly, nearly all of the 42-lever frame is still in use. In a sea of advanced cutting edge digital signalling, to find this mechanical piece of machinery still in use doing what it was designed to do seventy years ago is a amazing.

Class 390, VT 12.55 Manchester Picadilly-London Euston, Watford Junction station
We had to change trains at Watford Junction on our return journey to Milton Keynes. Whilst standing on platform eight I managed to photograph a class 390 racing through the station working the 12.55 Manchester Piccadilly to Euston. I opted for a slow shutter speed (1/5 sec.) as it was too dull to use a fast shutter speed without introducing too much digital noise. I think that result is quite interesting. It's also notable that even when it is this blurred, the train is instantly recognisable as a Pendolino.
