1. New Year's Day on the NLR-01.01.19

THE ARCHIVE FILES > Archive-2019 > 1. New Year's Day on the NLR-01.01.19
In common with previous years, my wife, son and I visited the Northampton and Lamport railway for a walk, a ride on the train and a mince pie. A great way to start off the year and even better this year as the sun was out!

47205, 13.00 Pitsford return, Pitsford north sidings
My first picture of 2019 and it's 47205 again! It is seen leading the 13.00 Pitsford return working away from Pitsford and Brampton station at its base on the Northampton and Lamport Railway. A photograph that breaks the rules by taking it into the sun but I really love the skeletal tree that is silhouetted against the bright sky.

47205, 14.00 Pitsford return, Pitsford and Brampton station
Looking very smart in its Railfreight grey livery as worn in the last phase of its working life on the mainline, 47205 waits at Pitsford and Brampton station with the 14.00 return working. My family and I took this train enjoying being served an orange juice and mince pie. 47205 was new to traffic in July 1965 as D1855. It became 47205 under TOPS in 1974, a number it wore until 1994 when it was renumbered 47395. This was only for just over a year after it reverted back to be 47205 again in 1995, and it stayed as that until withdrawal in 2001.

47205, 14.00 Pitsford return, Pitsford sidings
Under a dramatic sky, 47205 leaves from Pitsford sidings, the current southern limit of the Northampton and Lamport Railway. However, they have just received a grant form the local council and the European Union to complete their long held plans to run to Brampton Halt staion.

2104, stabled, Pitsford and Brampton station
Pecket 2104 has been a long standing resident of the Northampton and Lamport Railway. It has not been in-steam recently due to boiler certification issues. Let's hope that during 2019 this is resolved and that it is once again able to haul trains on the line again as this is what visitors want when they visit a heritage railway after all.
