Another busy few hours on the WCML just near to home. I nipped out in my van to capture the more interesting of the movements.

390020, VT 04.26 Glasgow Central-London Euston (1M21), Milton Crossing 
 In the early morning spring sunshine 390020 speeds south with the first up Glasgow Central working of the day that left in the darkness at 04.26. The picture is taken near to Milton Crossing between the villages of Blisworth and Roade on the Weedon loop of the WCML. If some developers have their way, this scene will change beyond all recognition as a huge railfreight and warehousing facility is to built on this land.

 A Pendolino in full flight! 390127 'Virgin Buccaneer' passes Milton Crossing just north of Roade Cutting with the 1B06 07.25 Wolverhampton to London Euston.

86259, outward leg of the Cumbrian Coast Express, 07.10 London Euston-Carlisle (1Z86), Milton Crossing 
 86259 'Les Ross/Peter Pan' leads the 1Z86 Cumbrian Coast Express past Milton Crossing just north of Roade Cutting. The veteran class 86 is a dependable performer on this working that it hauls as far as when the steam takes over. On this particualr ocassion, it gave way to class 7P 4-6-0 no 46100 'Royal Scot' at Carnforth that led to Carlisle and then back via the Cumbrian Coast route.

390050, VT 08.15 Manchester Piccadilly-London Euston (1A14), Victoria bridge 
 390050 takes the reverse curves as it approaches Victoria Bridge just south of Roade working the 08.15 Manchester Piccadilly to Euston.

319457 & 319429, LM 09.24 Bletchley CS-Northampton EMUD ECS (5N19), Victoria bridge 
 A regular Saturday morning turn is the 09.24 (or time thereabouts) Bletchley to Northampton Kingsheath depot ECS move. Here, 319457 still in its old First Capital Connect livery leads 319429 past Victoria bridge between Northampton and Milton Keynes.

319429 & 319457, LM 09.24 Bletchley CS-Northampton EMUD ECS (5N19), Victoria bridge 
 319429 brings up the rear of the 09.24 Bletchley CS to Northampton Kingsheath EMU depot ECS stock move. The train is seen passing Victoria bridge just south of Roade on the WCML. In the background is one of Roade's two water towers. Behind the water tower is is the remains of the Pianoforte factory that is in the process of being demolished to make way for a huge and unpopular housing development. The giant mounds are chopped up concrete from the demolition of the factory buildings.

67005, 08.14 London Victoria-Runcorn Nagex (1Z39), Victoria bridge 
 As this was Grand National day, there was a charter carrying race-goers from Victoria to Runcorn for onward transportation to Aintree. here, the 08.14 Victoria to Runcorn running as 1Z39 passes Victoria bridge lead by 67005 'Queens's Messenger' .

67006, 08.14 London Victoria-Runcorn Nagex (1Z39), Victoria bridge 
 67006 'Royal Sovereign' brings up the rear of the Pullman stock that is forming the 08.14 Victoria to Runcorn past Victoria bridge just south of Roade in Northamptonshire. It is carrying race-goers in some comfort to the Grand National at Aintree. Incidentally, the winner was Rule the World at 33/1 ridden by David Mullins.

56081 & 82035, 13.00 Wembley-Loughborough Brush (5Z56), Ashton Road bridge 
 Veteran motive power utilised on the WCML as 56081 tows Chiltern Railways 82035 past Ashton Road bridge just south of Roade. The DVT was being towed to Loughborough's Brush works for attention as the 13.00 ex. Wembley.
