Having just got a secondhand Canon G1X I was keen to get out and try it. So, I went on my bike to Roade Cutting to explore its possibilities.

350259, LM 12.02 Crewe-London Euston (1U30), Roade Cutting
350259 leads another Desiro through Roade Cutting forming the 12.02 Crewe to London Euston 'fast' service. A pretty ordinary train on a pretty ordinary working marks the very first picture taken with the new Canon camera!

350266, LM 12.54 Birmingham New Street-London Euston (2Y76), Roade Cutting
350266 works the 12.54 Birmingham New Street to Euston 2Y76 'stopper' through Roade Cutting. This service will stop at virtually every station en route meaning if you are merely going to London, it's a tiresome journey to say the least!

Class 221s, VT 13.43 London Euston-Glasgow Central (9S77), Roade Cutting
A pair of conjoined Class 221 Voyagers form the 13.43 Euston to Glasgow central through Roade Cutting. If I thought that the running of diesel power between Euston and Birmingham under electrified wires was a waste, how about this one doing the 400 miles between London and Glasgow; what a waste of energy!

390126, VT 12.47 Liverpool Lime Street-London Euston, Roade Cutting
390126 'Virgin Enterprise' heads south through the impressive Roade Cutting forming the 12.47 Liverpool Lime Street to London Euston. Virgin's as-built livery for the Class 390s certainly lifts the otherwise drab and grey scene at the end of the winter.

350105, LM 13.14 Birmingham New Street-London Euston (1Y46), Roade Cutting
350105 forms the 13.14 Birmingham New Street to London Euston 1Y46 service. It is seen passing through Roade Cutting just over sixty miles from its destination. As a 'fast' service, it's a journey that will take just over an hour.

66139, 14.05 Daventry-Dollands Moor (6O67), Roade Cutting
The daily 14.05 Daventry International Railfreight Terminal (DIRFT) to Dollands Moor empty cargo wagons working is seen heading through Roade Cutting with 66139 leading. This is a relatively easy load for the recently acquired DB loco. as this working is empty for the whole journey. As it's empty, the wagons make a lot more noise with no contents to dampen their sound.

Class 221, 13.40 Birmingham New Street-London Euston (1B24), Roade Cutting
Another unidentified Class 221 heads south through Roade Cutting powering the 13.40 Birmingham Euston to London Euston. Virgin must have been very short of electric power on this particular day as this service should have been a Pendolino and was the third diesel-powered train I observed in the short time that I was at Roade Cutting.

Class 221, VT 14.10 London Euston-Holyhead (1D88), Roade Cutting
A Class 221 forms the 14.10 Euston to Holyhead 1D88 service through Roade Cutting. This is an interesting journey that I have never made end to end but one that it is my 'to do' list.

390128, VT 10.00 Glasgow Central-London Euston (9M53), Roade Cutting
As the afternoon sun just begins to brighten the scene a little, 390128 'City of Preston' passes south through Roade Cutting working the 10.00 Glasgow Central to Euston. This picture clearly illustrates the significant extra length of these eleven-car Pendolinos with the rear of the train having not even passed under the green painted aqueduct

Class 221, VT unidentified down working (1D68), Roade Cutting
A class 221 heads north through Roade Cutting with an unidentified down working. The sky has begun to brighten up a little that is a good thing as the depths of the cutting can be a dark place at the best of times.
