221115, VT 13.20 Birmingham New Street-Preston (2S65), Birmingham New Street station
The rear end of 221115 'Polmadie Depot' sits in the grey daylight at Birmingham New Street as it waits to leave with the 13.20 to Preston. Can somebody explain the sense of running a diesel powered unit all the way under the wires on this 103 mile journey?

220019, XC 10.22 Eastleigh-Manchester Piccadilly (1M38), Birmingham New Street station
222019 slows for its stop at Birmingham New Street forming the 1M38 10.22 Eastleigh to Manchester Piccadilly. The unusual start point suggests that engineering work was taking place on the south coast

221115, VT 13.20 Birmingham New Street-Preston (2S65) & 221140, XC 11.27 Manchester Piccadilly-Eastleigh (1O16), Birmingham New Street station
A pair of class 221 Voyagers stand cheek by jowl at Birmingham New Street station. To the left Virgin Trains' 221115 'Polmadie Depot' waits to leave with the 13.20 to Preston. Whilst, to the right is Cross Country's 221140 waiting to head out south with the 11.27 Manchester Piccadilly to Eastleigh. Termination at this Hampshire station was because of Sunday engineering works.

Having arrived with the 2Y07 'slow' 10.28 Euston to Birmingham New Street, 350106 rests at its destination. Notice the ironic message from Virgin Trains on the side of diesel powered 221115 'Polmadie Depot' that is about to travel over 100 miles under energised 25kV wires all the way to preston!

350106, LM 13.14 Birmingham New Street-London Euston (2Y28), Coventry station
It was indicated that the train that we travelled home from Birmingham on had a reasonable dwell time at Coventry. So, much to my wife's alarm, I bailed from the train to take this picture. Off-course, I had ample time even managing to compose the picture in order to get Coventry's large running-in sign on the grassy bank in the background. We were travelling on 350106 forming the 13.14 Birmingham New Street to London Euston.
