Something a little different. With my lovely wife, an evening trip by train to Rugby to see a friend of ours play in his band to celebrate his fiftieth birthday. After a super meal, we headed to a great Irish bar to enjoy some live music and then home again by train.

66605, 15.02 Bow Depot-Tunstead Sidings (6M81), Northampton station
An experiment that I never thought that I could pull-off! A train was signalled at Northampton station to pass straight through whilst we were waiting for our service to Rugby. I thought that I would bang the camera ISO up to a ridiculous number (10000) and see what could be produced. With the train moving I had to use at least 1/320th sec. so I am amazed with how it turned out. Admittedly, I did have to use an excellent piece of software called Neat Image to clean the picture up but you have got to be impressed by what modern camera technology and software can do! The image shows 66605 passing through Northampton with the 6M81 15.02 Bow Depot to Tunsted sidings empty stone train.

350374, LN 16.33 Birmingham New Street-London Euston (1W22), Northampton station
With the main building of Northampton's new station brightly lit and towering above it 350374 waits to leave for Euston with the 16.33 from Birmingham New Street. With most of these 350 unit in their awful revised livery photographing them at night (and many other conditions for that matter) has become much more tricky. The huge slab of drab green covering their ends does not lift them out from the background. Let's hope that a graphic designer sees sense soon and that London Northwestern or their parent company, West Midlands Trains, come up with a better colour scheme!

350252, LN 16.50 London Euston-Birmingham New Street (1Y61, 7L), Northampton station
After arrival at Rugby's relatively new platform one 350252 pauses with the 16.50 Euston to Birmingham New Street. My wife and I travelled up on this train from Northampton and found it very busy with the guard declassifying first class as is fairly common despite it being a twelve car working. That is fine if you are a standard class passenger standing nose to nose in a vestibule but if you were a first class season ticket holder I am pretty sure that you would be not quite so happy!

350377, LN 20.10 Crewe-Northampton (2N46, 1L), Northampton station
Having arrived back in a chilly Northampton, 350377 has just joined another unit in front of it on platform one ready to make the short journey to the Riverside sidings the other side of the station for overnight stabling. We travelled from Rugby on this service, the 2N46 20.10 from Crewe. In the background, another class 350 leaves platform two with the 20.40 Euston to Birmingham New Street.
