A day off, a superb autumn day and and hour or so on my hands led me to take a walk across the fields to Victoria Bridge.

66425, 09.48 Tilbury-DIRFT (4M07), Victoria Bridge
66425 passes Victoria Bridge between Northampton and Milton Keynes leading the daily 4M07 09.48 Tilbury to Daventry Freightliner. Even though it's only lunchtime, the shadows are already fairly long on this mid autumn day.

350370, LN 11.33 Birmingham New Street-London Euston (1W12, RT), Victoria Bridge
In the past I have criticised London Northwestern's new livery that they are slowly applying to their class 350 units. In the bright autumnal sun, 350370 looks reasonable in its new paintwork as it passes Victoria Bridge just south of Roade with the 11.33 Birmingham New Street to Euston. If it was a grey and overcast day, the train would have been difficult to see against the surroundings so I suppose, like Great Western's 'racing' green livery, the weather is crucial to determining how it looks.

350107's livery looks bright in the low autumnal light as it passes Victoria Bridge south of Roade working the 11.54 Euston to Northampton.

390040, VT 12.40 London Euston-Manchester-Piccadilly (1H67, 3L), Victoria Bridge
390040 passes Victoria Bridge forming the 12.40 1H67 Euston to Manchester Piccadilly. Yes, I know that this subject is in the shade but I like the dappling on the side of the train and the lovely warm light in the background so s*d the rules!

Class 221s, VT 12.43 London Euston-Edinburgh Waverley (9S70, RT), Victoria Bridge
What a waste of resources! A pair of Virgin 221s race north past Victoria Bridge in south Northamptonshire forming the 12.42 Euston to Edinburgh. The economics of running a double manned ten car DMU all the way under the wires is farcical, with each carriage having a thirsty 750Hp Cummins diesel engine underneath. Surely, planners could organise a Pendolino from the fleet to run this service or I am I missing something, advice willingly taken!

66109, 09.27 Dollands Moor-DIRFT (6M45), Victoria Bridge
Still wearing its EWS livery with DB vinyls, 66109 leads the daily 09.27 6M45 Dollands Moor to Daventry railfreight terminal past Victoria Bridge just north of Hanslope Junction. This train conveys ten of thousands of bottles of spring water imported from Europe for onward distribution from Daventry.

DR73118, 10.32 West Ealing Plasser Sidings-Crewe PAD, Victoria Bridge
To me, there appears to be an increasing number of the movement of these track machines around the network? Here, DR73118 trundles past Victoria Bridge just south of Roade making the 10.32 Ealing to Crewe move. Unfortunately, despite the amazing quality of modern digital equipment, it could not quite cope with the extreme tonal range from the shadows of the fast lines up to the bright yellow of the sun-drenched roof of the track machine.

37254, 09.55 Tonbridge West Yard-Derby RTC, Victoria Bridge
37254 'Cardiff Canton' heads north past Victoria Bridge between Milton Keynes and Northampton with the 09.55 Tonbridge to Derby RTC light engine move. This is the first time that I have seen this 37 since it has had its Colas Rail Freight livery applied. I am not sure that I like this livery very much but it's fantastic to see these veteran English Electric locos. still earning their keep over 50 years after their introduction.

390154, VT 11.55 Manchester Piccadilly-London Euston (1A31, 10L), Roade Hill
Not a photograph that will win any prizes for it composition but just look at that 'huge' sky! In lovely lighting, 390154 'Matthew Flinders' heads south with the 11.55 Manchester Piccadilly to London Euston. The train is seen passing between Roade and Ashton just north of Hanslope Junction.
