Our trip to Norwich by train from Sheringham. I left my wife and son in the afternoon and took the train to Diss and back. The chance to ride behind a locomotive in Mk. III stock with slam doors and drop lights is disappearing fast so I thought that I would enjoy it while I could!

The nameplate of 90015 'Colchester Castle' stands at Norwich station at the head of the 14.00 to London Liverpool Street. I took this 1P47 working as far as its first stop, Diss.

170207 leaves Norwich station forming the 14.40 to Cambridge. This unit looks smart in its white Greater Anglia livery but I suspect that maintaining these trains in this condition takes some considerable work!

A number of the class 90s that run on the Great Eastern line out of Liverpool Street are name. They all have names associated with the East of England such as this one. 90011 is about to work the 15.30 Norwich to Liverpool Street. One wonders what will happen to the names, or the class 90s for that matter when they are withdrawn from service on this line next year?

The dispatch team at Norwich give the 15.00 to Liverpool Street the RA bang on time according to the station clock. This scene will change markedly soon with the removal from service of the Mk. III slam door stock with their drop light windows. So, my ability to take a picture such of this will be removed too.

90007 'Sir John Betjeman' leaves Diss propelling the 14.00 Liverpool Street to Norwich working. Diss station retains many of its original features from when it was opened in 1849 and its buildings are typical of many Great Eastern structures form this time. It is one of a few stations in the country that is soley served by inter-city trains only as there is no local service on the line from Norwich to Ipswich.

90011, 15.30 Norwich-London Liverpool Street (1P49, RT), Diss station
Seen earlier at Norwich, 90011 'East Anglia Daily Times: Suffolk & Proud' slows with the 15.30 Norwich to London Liverpool Street for its stop at Diss station. The weather brought beautiful and crisp autumn air that is a joy to take pictures in, with a nice low sun angle that ensures that the subject is clearly lit.

82103 & 91012, GA 14.30 London Liverpool Street-Norwich (1P36, RT), Diss station
DVT 82103 leads the 14.30 Liverpool Street to Norwich into Diss station with 90012 'Royal Anglian Regiment' doing all the work at the rear. I took this train back to Norwich, a journey of just over 15 minutes. Failures on this line are not so frequent now as they have been in the past and it was usually to do with the DVT and its DUPLEX systems.

170273, GA 16.45 Norwich-Sheringham (2S26, RT), Norwich station
A bit of luxury for our journey back from Norwich to Sheringham! The 2S76 16.45 service was rostered for 170273 rather than the usual class 156 fare. My wife, in particular, was impressed with the interior and comfort of this unit so it must have been very good! It is seen here a short while before departure from Norwich station.

Tickets, Sheringham-Norwich-Sheringham
Our return tickets from Sheringham to Norwich. It was cheaper for us to buy three group save tickets than to use my our two-together and young persons railcards. Doing this journey once a year over a fairly long time scale the rise in fares has been noticeable to see.
