It has become a bit of a personal tradition for me to take a walk out on New Year's Eve to finish off the last twelve months of railway photography with an hour or so at the lineside. This year, I went to one of my favourite local haunts, just ten minutes walk from home, Roade Cutting.

390134 'City of Carlisle' speeds through Roade Cutting forming the 12.17 Euston to Manchester Piccadilly. As a nine-car Pendolino, this unit is soon to be repainted into Virgin's new flying silk livery.

390122 'Penny the Pendolino' takes Roade Cutting heading north with the the 9G12 12.20 Euston to Birmingham new Street working. A very wintery scene with leafless trees, very flat colour and dull lighting.

With just a little light reflecting off the roof of London Northwestern's 350112 as it passes through Roade Cutting. The Desiro is forming the 11.54 Euston to Northampton 2N13 service.

66413, 12.28 Daventy-Wembley (4L98), Roade Cutting
Even if it was New Year's Eve, things go on as usual as the 12.28 Daventry to Wembley 4L98 Freightliner passes through Roade Cutting. 66413 leads the train still wearing its DRS livery but with no branding as it was in use with its new operator, Freightliner, the small decals of which can be seen on the cab side.

With a last 'hoorah' of sun just being picked up on its front end, 390153 'Mission Accomplished' passes through Roade Cutting working the 1A23 11.55 Manchester to London Euston. I expect that the New Year's Eve revellers on-board would have appreciated its six minute early arrival into London!

350104 'Alstom Pendolino' heads north through Roade Cutting forming the 12.57 Euston to Manchester Piccadilly. This 11-car Pendolino has a unique branding with two sets of vinyls to commemorate the 175th anniversary of Longsight Depot and the other to recognise the working relationship between Virgin and Alstom.

A very ordinary train marks my final picture of 2017! 350262 and 350267 work the 2Y22 12.14 Birmingham New Street to London Euston service through Roade Cutting. Happy New Year everybody, here's to some great trips out during 2018!
