Just two days before Christmas and I have time to nip out to Victoria Bridge to see the 5Z43 steam light engine movement. Unfortunately, it was a very dull day, but it was only two days after the shortest day.

With the fields in the background hardly visible through the gloom, 350372 heads the 10.29 Euston to Birmingham New Street past Victoria Bridge just south of Roade.

350250 takes the down fast line past Victoria Bridge with the 10.46 London Euston to Crewe. This service runs 'fast' as far as Staffordshire then, essentially, becomes a 'slow' stopper. It always strikes me as strange service pattern?

The newly applied flying silk livery of 390016 really brightens up the dullness of a grey December day as it passes Victoria Bridge on the southern section of the WCML near Roade. It is working the 11.00 Euston to Manchester Piccadilly 1H20 that, unfortunately, arrived 14 minutes late.

390127, VT 11.07 London Euston-Liverpool Lime Street (1F15, 11L), Victoria Bridge
With its front end looking a little tatty, 390127 'Virgin Buccaneer' forms the 11.07 Euston to Liverpool. This slightly wider angle picture at Victoria Bridge involved me doing some pruning of some extensive ivy that had begun to envelop this end of the bridge parapet.

45212, 09.50 Southall-Castleton (5Z43), Victoria Bridge
Stanier Black 5 4-6-0 number 45212 is suitably adorned with tinsel as it passes Victoria Bridge between Roade and Hanslope Junction in Northamptonshire. It was making a positioning 5Z43 LE move with one support coach as the 09.50 Southall to Castleton in Rochdale. Here it will reverse and join the East Lancs. Railway at Castleton Junction.
