It was my son's birthday but I was still allowed out early to see the steam hauled Chester Christmas Cracker railtour as long as I was home early enough to make the bacon sandwiches for breakfast; deal done!

Class 350, LM 07.54 London Euston-Birmingham New Street (2Y17, 1L), Haversham SP818425
Haversham viaduct is located just north of Wolverton station and crosses the shallow valley that contains the River Great Ouse. On a beautiful bright, frost and crisp late autumn morning, a class 350 crosses the viaduct with the 07.54 Euston to Birmingham New Street.

Class 390, VT 07.35 Manchester Piccadilly-London Euston (1A10, RT), Haversham SP818425
An unidentified class 390 heads south forming the 07.35 Manchester to Euston service. The two horses do not even give it a glance as it crosses Haversham Viaduct just north of Wolverton station. Historic England state that the viaduct 'was one of the principal landmarks of the first trunk railway and one of the earliest viaducts on this scale.'

66957, 02.57 Felixstowe North-Ditton (4M45), Haversham SP818425
In stunning light, 66957 'Stephenson Locomotive Society 1909-2009' heads north over Haversham viaduct with the 4M45 02.57 Felixstowe North to Ditton freightliner. The six-arch viaduct is over 600 feet long rising 57 feet above the valley below that contains the River Great Ouse.

60163, outward leg of The Chester Christmas Cracker, 08.08 London Euston-Chester (1Z81), Haversham SP818425
The horse seems totally uninterested in the passage of 60163 'Tornado' over Haversham viaduct leading the The Christmas Cracker railtour from Euston to Chester. It was a perfect morning for the exhaust to condense into the dry and cold air but it's a shame that the frost has all but melted away from the field in the foreground.

60163 'Tornado' passes over the glorious Haversham (also known as Wolverton) viaduct with the outward leg of the 1Z81 Chester Christmas Cracker railtour. I was surprised that there was only one other person at this great vantage point on such a superb morning.
